Hi guys,

Bit of a long shot but worth a try. I recently decided I would do a bit of a website. I have all my chemistry/physics notes (well, the mass majority) computerised and I intend sticking them on the net just to help anybody who might do salters sciences (really odd courses and difficult to find specific revision material!). Trouble is, my HTML knowledge is limited and I really don't have the time to stick it on the net and I have a rather unused copy of frontpage which I wanted to just use to do it on the quick.

Trouble is, if many of you know, that free servers supporing FP extensions (specific software on their side to allow you to use FP) are few and far between and I have signed up for about 3 today of which none seem to provide actual webspace, just happy to take my email address and send me junk i guess!

Basically, I was wondering if anybody knew of a free host that could offer:

Minimum of 5/10MB
FP extensions (whatever year, most will be the latest version anyway)
Prefrably only banner ads but if necessary, pop ups

I had one a few years back, f2s.co.uk but 18 months or more ago they changed their service and started to charge you and I am not paying to put notes on the net lol.

You don't get any free space with you BB provider? Or maybe they are doing a deal. Who you with again?

Pipex gives me 50meg free, but not even attempted to use it yet. Just use imageuploader thingy to bang in pictures.

I use freeserve or what ever its called now, i create my website in Macromedia Dreamweaver with all the files saved in one folder and then upload them onto their server, cant rememebr what their web space is but i have three pics up all over 1.5Mb each so thats over 5Mb.
will cretae a better one in the summer when uni is finished though.

I am with NTL (55mb) but I don't expect any BB/IP/ISP will provide you with FP extensions. I could look into it (i.e. find the password lost somewhere in the house 2 years ago!) but I think it would be a waste of time as without FP, it makes it a lot more difficult. I.e. you have to do it via FTP and not the simple automatic thing in FP, plus you can't have a lot of features that FP can do.

telewest have frontpage extensions,so i would assume NTL do too

Cheers you guys, have just dropped NTL an email (cheaper than their 50p a minute tech support!) and will let you know the outcome. if they do support them - great! However, I don't have a clue where the passwords etc. are, maybe parents will.

Any other suggestions would be great too thanks.

Free, and has FTP support.

Need to be able to read French for the setup though

what are FP extensions? I have a yahoo website and done it all in html because I have a html genius living next to me. It's free with a tiny box advert and you get 15MB. Or does that not do what you want?

Cinqy, sorry if i wasn't clear, i need FP support (frontpage), not FTP. I can read French so shouldn't be a problem but only worth a look if they support la extensions de frontpage hehe.

Dr Pepper; they are basically a load of cr*p you get when you make websites in Frontpage (microsoft) and allow you to use its own FTP software built in. It's so easy I so much prefer it. It's WUSIWUG (what you see is what you get..) and very easy to use, i.e. my notes will just drop in keeping so much of the formatting without any fiddling. it also allows you special things such as its own search function etc. which are again, so easy and simple. A big cheat to putting your site on the net but so professional if you want it to be, IMO anyway!

I just don't have the enthusiasm to do anything but shove it into FP for the time being.

No I understood Paul, I'm not sure if its got FP support or not, but the FTP support is a bonus, that's all, since they are increasingly charging for this .

Just gone onto ifrance and unfortunately it doesn't look like they do FP - even for their paid for service, thanks anyway though

It made me realise how much I rely on skimming rather than reading!

Well, i found one after lots of looking:

www.netfirms.com was set up within 2 minutes and FP extensions worked immediately!

Stuart; not sure, i like to keep my school and FF etc. separate, wouldn't be the same if my friends came on here and read my ramblings would it?

Dr Pepper; I am honestly worried about people just using my notes and messing up their exams, i get my notes and use them, but whether they will help anyone else is a totally different story! lol.

I made that site in about 8 mins lol, see how easy it is, just a test to see if it works and it does

I will sort out proper wording for it all, as I say, that was just a quick disclaimer, I need to sort out actual names for the copyrights etc. (I have from one person but not another - I have used all his "check your notes" things but then again, he only copied them from the chemistry books! lol)

Hmmm, good point - whatever would they think of you! I am surprised you get any revision done at all. I am a fine one to talk, I always did 'night before, open textbook for first time' approach. Seemed to work
