i know what it does already, it comes up as unlicenced, but it doesnt prove its been scrapped, it just means its not been taxed or sorned, and loads of cars are like that all over the uk and not scrapped, means there getting some fines coming there way though!

just part it, seen this a few times on ebay, was better description to iirc, saying that the lump was fecked, take as much mods of & scrap car best bet?

does no one know then :( what would happen if i applied for the log book and it is recorded as scrapped? surely dvla would think somethings up and wont just say its been scrapped cos they think its been broken up, when it hasnt  hmmmmmm lol,

i might ring dvla, and say iv bought a car from auction, and hpi said its recorded as scrapped, can you confirm this?

just go to the cop shop and ask them to do a reg check., it you get a decent copper then he'll check it out for ya if you tell him the situation., ive done that a few times.,

Hang on Beau, that doesn't sound right. Once a vehicle is registered as scrapped that's supposed to be it - the end. The whole point was to stop 'ringing' of stolen cars using the ID of a scrapped vehicle. I thought the regulations had changed so that once a vehicle was registered as scrapped the number plate and chassis number were null and voided on the DVLA system.

I'd double check on this as I'm fairly sure you've been given incorrect information. Are you sure she doesn't think you're just trying to apply for a replacement log book for a non scrapped car?

Perhaps if you could give us a bit more information about what exactly you are looking at buying perhaps we can give you a bit more advice. Is this an insurance write off - Cat A, B or C? Or does it just need a VIC check?

And what are you doing looking at buying another car?!!!!!

well i did say, so if it is scrapped, it can be put back on the road and she said yes, it might not be scrapped! but im not sure.

the car has not been taxed or sorned since may 06, this would normally mean the cars been scrapped, cos its illegal not to tax or declare the car is off road.

If scrapped you need to know which category it is in

The categories are as follows:

• Category A. The vehicles under this category are extensively damaged vehicles such as those destroyed by fire, with no salvageable parts and vehicles which can never be re-registered to return to the road.

• Category B. Category B vehicles are vehicles which are extensively damaged but which do have some parts with value, these vehicles can also never be re-registered and returned to road use, or vehicles which require a complete new body shell.

• Category C. Category C vehicles are vehicles where the repair cost exceeds the value of the vehicle, however the extent of the damage is such that the vehicle can be repaired by the use of recycled parts or by using other cost saving measures. With a category C vehicle the buyer needs to apply to the DVLA for a Vehicle Registration Document (VRD) what used to be called a ‘Log Book’

• Category D. Vehicles which fall within D category are vehicles where the cost of repair is less than the value of the vehicle, however for a number of reasons it may not be economically viable to repair the vehicle. This could be for a number of reasons:

• Category X / W. Vehicles not recorded on VCAR
