Re: Forum Rules Updated

What about if you've tried every avenue to get hold of a member i.e. by PM and email, would a FAO thread then be given points?

Re: Forum Rules Updated

well theres little point as if they come online the get a pm notification straight away.
if the pm box is full they get an email.
remember its not an automated system so obviously there are variable circumstances for every post

Re: Forum Rules Updated

Just to point out, these were not brought in because users were causing too many problems.

It was due to a problem occuring and there being no set way to deal with it, so people were getting accused of being over zealous etc ... this way everything is nice and easily laid out

Re: Forum Rules Updated

I must admit that the Mods do a very good job!!!

The only critisism i ever have is the intolerance that is sometimes shown to newbies because of basic questions that regular forum users already have knowledge off

I feel that deleting a post and appling a correctly worded direct contact (even a bogo letter) would have more effect and ensure continuing subscription rather than the far too frequent public humiliation

Re: Forum Rules Updated

yeah but its a tricky one.
delete the thread and they post wheres my thread
leave it and have multiple posts on the same stuff
make up faq's,guides etc and some dont look or just post anyway

theres some stuff coming that should make it much easier for members to locate info which i think will make a big difference.
as with most forums when you 1st join its hard to find some info, stickys etc when theres loads of sections

Its not really newbies the mods have a go at, we appreicate that they dont know their way around the forum. Its more of the regular users that know the rules but try and push them. Like "how much is my car worth" then they turn it into a selling thread. Or they blantantly post a thread to sell.

Or post in the wrong section. Pet Peeve atm is people who asked for a computing section post computer problems in the lesuire lounge - not the computing section. They asked for it, they got it and still post in the wrong place. Surely you can see why this gets a tad annoying....

Is it not possible for the forum to have some kind of 'valuation thread' instead then? I got a FF Asbo () for trying to find out what an engine part was worth. I was NOT selling it (I'm sure I didn't even mention that I had it, I just asked what a specific part was worth), but was trying to find out the market value so I could decide what to do with a complete Punto I have.

If the part alone was worth the price of the complete Punto then it would make sense for me to keep it for a future project and break the rest of the car, at which point the car minus the part would go into the classifieds. But I wouldn't be able to decide what to do until I knew the value of the specific engine part, which being Fiat specific means that only other Fiat owners would know the going rate. Surely that's one of the good things about a Fiat specific forum is that we can share useful information like this?

I have no criticism of the mod who gave me the infraction as they were simply adhering to the rules and doing their job. However, the suggestion that I put the part in question in the classifieds and ask for 'best offer' to get a valuation I think is unfair on the people who might well be interested in buying one. Before we know it the classifieds could be full of 'best offer' adverts from people trying to work out what something is worth rather than actually selling it.

The only other thing I could suggest is to allow people to ask the going rate for a part/ vehicle but WITHOUT mentioning that they have it. We have threads like this already that are acceptable, such as 'Recommend me a car for £1.5K' where people discuss what car to get for that money. Someone will mention 'Punto Sporting' and then 'you can pick them up for £xxx' etc. It's just a way of accessing knowledge of the going rate for something, which a lot of owners might not have a clue what it is.

That knowledge could make the difference between someone underselling something they are selling, or being ripped off for something they are buying.

Just a thought!

Re: Forum Rules Updated

the problem is that loads of people were using 'how much is it worth' as a way of creating an ad on the forum.
you list a specific case for you but in the end you have the part/car which will be for sale at some point.
thats why there is an open to offers or auction style in the classifieds

Question Re: Forum Rules Updated

Hi all Fiat fans, I'm new hear and wondered if someone could help me out
Firstly I can't seem to find where or how I start a post
Secondly :
I have just bought a Doblo Cargo jtd sx 'O4 (in dirty white ) . It's done some work in it's short life, lugging kitchin fitters and their tools around the country, and has clocked up 96k. This wouldn't be a problem if it still went like a 20k'er but it acts more like a 200k'er. The pull away power for a 1.9 Turbo Diesel is poor at best and attrocious at worst and I have absolutely no idea where to start looking for the solution ?. I've seen a magic box of tricks on ebay for £120 that will boost the power by <25% but not sure if they're any good anybody know if it's likely to be a scam or do these chips actualy do what they say on the tin ?
Cheers for now
