Site redesign

The site redesign is underway, so you lot need to contact me with any errors / or with any ideas that you might have.

We also need a new logo that fits in the top left (310 x 60) so if anyone wants to give it a go...

Apart from that, any comments gratefully received :D

PS: There is also now a 'report post to a moderator' link at the bottom of every message, allowing you to report messages you find offensive etc etc.

Cheers, however i think its a bit cluttered.. expecially where the ad bar joins the menu... anyone got any ideas on how to sort that?

can we not have it full width again.. it may look right for lower resoultions..but 19" monitor at 1280x1024 here and its kinda annoying the forum doesnt fill the screen

Cinq Sporting - and yes, its broom yellow!

only thing i would like to see is a "view posts since last vist" dont know if its already been talked about before or not though. maybe a button for each section like if your only really interested in the "Fiat Cinquecento / Seicento" section you could go in there and click on "view posts since last vist" and just see the replies in that section. not sure how easy/hard that is to do but would be a nice touch i think

if there's room between the arch and wheel its not low enough

yeah, i hear ya (same with me), but i want to be able to design for a set size. although i suppose i could make it work out which res you were running in and act accordingly.

In answer to the question about topics since your last visit, yes it already does :) , use the 'active topics' link in the grey menu bar.

Right, got a plan :D If my logo designers could design something that will fit in the original size given, BUT have it actually be a lot wider, say 750, with the main logo and stuff in the 310 and the rest as 'filler padding'

This means if someone with a larger res uses it, there wont be useless space between the logo and the ad banner.

Cheers muchly!

Ah the Tax Dodger returns

1) Get rid of the billox avatars - they look s**te and slow the forum down as well as pile up crap on my hard disk. They were fun for a while a few years back but as most forums found they slowed the damn things down and started to get rid of them.

2) Thin down the number of catagories - one for each model is enough - its a pain i nthe ass going out of one into another!

3)Group some of the models together, like Marea & Bravo/a and cinq / Sei into a Cento one - like you said it is very cluttered

4) Lastly - site sponsorship, we might be interested depending on what can be done.

Just my usual few pence worth!

Cheers nigel for input, will look into that.
At the moment, I am converting all the forum to use CSS (cascading style sheets) which should cut page sizes down a lot (for example, the main from page went from 180k down to 150k), the topic pages should see a massive decrease!

It might also mean somethings look a bit odd (from browser to browser) so you guys will need to let me know!

Ta andy, but i mean it needs to have actual stuff in it for the full length, just not anything that mattered if it got hidden in the out of 310 part. (meaning if you have a lower screen res, you will always see the logo, but if you have higer, it will stretch out nicely to fill screen.

One thing tho, I dont think any white in the logo like that would fit in so well? I dunno tho, so give me some ideas and i'll put them in a random rotate, so everyone can pick...

Almost finished the css for the front page, forum view and active topics now so you should be noticing a speed increase (Especially on 56k modems) as the file sizes are a lot smaller. Will work on the topic viewer tomorrow and get the rest of the above mentioned pages done.

Once all thats done, I'll start on the Buying/Selling bit (our own Autotrader, but just for fiats :D) and the FIAT museum (basically a compilation of each FIAT model ever released. It would be useful to get some help on that (I'll work out a template we want filled in for each, then they can all match up)...

Once thats done, can link a register type jobby to each user who can pick their car from the 'museum'. But hey, thats gonna be a while yet :D

If you want a history of most models nick it off the Fiat Motor Club site - its already on there, if you want more I will do it for you.

Great site. Started to annoy the lad now with how much time I am spending on 'His' PC.

How about last post info on subscriptions page? It would give a quick way to see if anyone had posted after you. Alternatively a filter on active topics for those you were subscribed to.

A full set of Fiat workshop manuals would also be nice...[}:)]

85% of Marea HLX drivers have speeding tickets.... lol they'll have to catch me first.

Hmm Polecat, will have a look at that (i dont use subs, so not quite sure)

however, CSS on the topic pages has been finished, stripping out yet more useless font and colour tags... enjoy!
