Question 19 year old Driving a group 9 car

I'm 19, been driving my sei sporting since i was 17 on my mums insurance.

I'm now about to upgrade to a VW Bora Sport 1.9tdi (130bhp)

The best quote i've recieved on this car is £1860. That is fully comp, in my name with zero years no claims (as i've never held my own insurance)

Any ideas for a more competitive quote??

thanks

DAN

That's poor, i got quoted £1800 on a group 11 uno turbo at 18 Fully Comp, but with 1 year NCB. That's where your problem lies, you have no NCB.

Re: 19 year old Driving a group 9 car

was just wondering how did you get a vti as a group 12 considering the lowest vti is a group 14 1.8 ??? hatchback is a 16

and mate you are still in the young driver category 17-21 so that wont help much but try some others keep shopping and tell them the quotes you have had so far and 80% of the time another will reduce the quotes for you

HAve you tried an online quote with Elephant? I was 20 when I started my own policy with 0 no claims etc... My premium is £1k and thats a group 9 car (Fabia vRS, same engine as Bora).

Have you done the IAM course?

nah not if you stay on it long enough, by the time they are 23 - 25 when they go on their own name it'll be worth it, especially seeing as alot of insurance co's offer an introductory 2 yrs NCB.

By which time you could have the seven years no claims you've just given to your mother I found NCB reduced my insurance far faster than being old.

Re: 19 year old Driving a group 9 car

I'm with Helz on this one, i'm 23 and have 4 years ncb now, its worth it in long run, as i'm gonna be able to afford a 'proper' car soon without a massive payout. Thats not gonna work if you have no ncb at all even if you are 25 or whatever.

edit: oh forgot, try www.ecarinsurance.co.uk mate, it seems to not always give people a good quote but when i does its a bargin.. Not bad on mods either

i didn't get insurance in my name until i was 25. it saved me a bundle, and once you're 25 its affordable even with 0 NCB

the money i saved is far more than the extra its costing me now. my insurance is only £400, i saved more than that every year i was insured in someone else's name.

if you add up each years insurance the way i did it up until i get 5yrs NCB, then compare that to what i would have paid if i had it in my name up until the same year, surely i've saved a couple of grand at least.

Who wants to sponge of their parent's until they are 25, not me, whose parents would let them, not mine. At the end of the day i bought my car myself, I insured it myself in my name, i fix as much as i can myself, im 17, im skint, but at least i have the pride to say i payed my own way and got everything off my own back, sure there have been times i have needed to borrow money, but i always paid it back, unlike lots of kids i know, who's mummy and daddy just bought them the latest clio/corsa.
