UPDATE: There was a Radio 4 programme recently and the expert being interviewed concluded that consumers should not buy GAP from a car dealer. He even went as far as to advise listeners to get it through a broker for best value.

I've been getting quotes for GAP cover myself, £21k vehicle purchase price, £15k cover required over 5 years, wanting the cover which will return to same age / spec vehicle as car is when purchased if model has been updated (so will cover if new vehicle model is a higher spec) not return to invoice, each company seems to call it different things. What sort of price can you guys do as a single payment

Thanks MEP. We only offer the 3 year cover and it pays the difference between the insurer payout and the original net invoice selling price or the finance early settlement figure (whichever is greater). That's not the same as you're requesting and we don't have any other options I'm afraid.

If this was of interest our price based on the £21k value = £112.68.

Just thought I'd let you know that it was the gap that swung it in your favour when I got our new 500 - the cost saving on the gap combined with the insurance made you the most competitive. You were great on the phone too.

Non-gap related question for you: I've just got a chip in my windscreen - it looks reparable. If it is reparable and the screen doesn't need replacing do I have to pay the £75 excess? Policies I've had in the past have repairs for free - but I've never had to use it! I can't see anaything in my policy about repairs - just windscreen claims.

On the question of the windscreen repair, there is no excess to pay for repairs - only for replacements.
