As you seem to have a small interest in the fiat Forum, could you write a thread explaining some of the ins and outs of car insurance?
Almost every thread in this section involves a young driver asking for advice on how to reduce their premium.
Answers include such gems as "add a parent" or "park off road" or "take the pass plus scheme".

Could you write a thread (which the mods may like to stick up top) which explains how to reduce premiums and why each suggestion will help reduce premiums?

A couple of the so-called ways of reducing premiums actually confuse me > parking in a garage... once the burglar is in the garage, he/she can spend as long as they like on your car as they are hidden from view - so, surely, the best option would be a well-lit driveway where everyone can see what's going on & the car is less likely to be hit by other road users?
>add a parent... ??? Having driven commercially for a number of years, it has always been best policy to give each driver their own vehicle as they will tend to look after it better than simply taking pot luck. This is borne out by my current employer where I never know which vehicle I'm driving from one day to the next - so I make sure I thoroughly inspect it for dents etc before I do anything else (and something new seems to appear almost every time!). So why would adding additional people reduce premiums?
And what about the insurance itself? Every car on the road must have valid tax, MOT and insurance. My current policy, it seems, is slightly cheaper as I do not have third party cover to drive another car - that is, to drive a car which is already insured (although this argument seems to negate the previous 'add a parent' argument - however, this then means that the insurance is person and not vehicle based).
One other thing, after my eldest took the pass plus, he was told that if he now had an accident, his insurance would hammer him as it is felt that he should now be in a position to be more able to avoid accidents (which seems to fly in the face of the definition of 'accident')
