Anyone know the answer to my dumb questions?

Does a new car stereo count as a modification, I replaced the tape/radio with a cd player?

I have a standard 54 reg punto 1.2 active 3 door, RAC insurance said it had a something approved alarm, which it does not but I think it may have an immobiliser, does anybody know?

Thanks

Pete

A replacement head unit does not count as a modification (y)
Although you should check with your insurer if their not nice..

Mine said it's fine(y) so long as no extra speakers / boom box etc in the boot(y)

The small print on my insurance specifically states they will cover stereo up to £240 so, for my part, I have kept the box and reciept as proof - just in case.
It is also worth informing them (courtesy) because if you were ever to make a claim they might get a bit shirty if they suddenly find out you want extra cash for a stereo unit they knew nothing about "you told us it wasn't modified in any way...".
Insurers don't like paying out more than they have to.
Honesty is always the best policy, you want them to tell you your car is OK at the quote stage rather than find out at the claim stage that something is against their policy!
