Offer 2 : Adrian Flux - up to 15% discount on your insurance policy!

Dear Adrian Flux.

I am somewhat disappointed by your renewal invitation today which sees the annual price of my policy increase by over £400 pounds.

I'm 19 years old and in 2010 I paid £860 for insurance on my Panda which is group 1. This is on a TPFT policy, value of car £400, £250 excess and no convictions or claims. I have 2 years driving and currently have 1 years NCB, which will obviously become 2 years NCB when I renew my policy.

Now, even though my driving experience has increased, I'm a year older and I've avoided any accidents or claims or convictions - my insurance is going up to £1,231?

I've been with you guys for the past few years so hopefully when I call up tomorrow for an explaination something will change.

Otherwise £700 at Admiral it is!

Cheers,

Alex

How much?

I thought the extra £44 this year on my Cinq (group 3) was unfair, considering I've also had no claims and will have another years no claims, year on my licence, etc and I'm outside the 17-24 bracket.

Hi Alex,

I can always arrange a call back from our renewals team, feel free to pm me your full name, reference number and contact telephone number.

Dan.

Hello!

I called yesterday for a quote/enquiry and discovered that the reason for the £400 increase was that you apparently don't broker for NIG any more so the best price was with another company.

No big deal, Admiral this year - probably back to Adrian Flux again next year.

Cheers anyway :)

Alex

Dan.

I've always wondered this, shouldn't you be offering the best price possible anyway? Don't think its very good giving a quote to someone, then say it can be cheaper if you phone back etc.

Not just you btw, everyone seems to be doing it.

Initial discount to get you on their books, then another to get you to stay when you threaten to leave.

Also trying their luck against people's indifference/laziness/lack of time/unwillingness to pick up the phone and communicate with other humans.

All the best

My renewal with you for classic car insurance was £166 including the unfair £30 fee. Ridiculous price. (n)

Found a quote elsewhere for £106 on the same terms.(y)

Shame as i've been with you for about 4 years but your prices are just getting silly now.

Unfair £30 fee...would that be the one that goes to the MIB? Hardly unfair if someone crashes into you with no insurance.

Hi

Did you contact our renewals team to advise of your cheaper quote to see if they can compete?

Dan

No I didnt. The £106 quote was cheaper than any renewal I have received from you in the last 4 years. If you were able to beat it, then why offer me such an expensive renewal in the first place? I appreciate it doesnt just cover me when i'm driving, but £167 for 1500 miles of driving is just ridiculous- that works out at 11p per mile!

Also, as I said, the £30 fee you introduced since my last renewal was a deal breaker for me.

thanks to pass plus got a quote just over £2k for fully comp.
AF comes up with a similar price - turns out that is TPF&T only

In the end I went with Admiral for £580odd less than Flux quoted and ended up paying a grand total of £470!

Now, even though my driving experience has increased, I'm a year older and I've avoided any accidents or claims or convictions - my insurance is going up to £1,231?

AF £1,800 or so.
Admiral can do me for £940

LMFAO! Got a insurance quote online, £765.42, phone up as they say its only a provisional offer and I could save more money. Turns out that it was for TPF&F...Fully comp was £1200...guess I wont be going with them...and no where near my best offer of £680.

Quite funny this... Im 19, 1 years no claims... and no points... insurance last year was £1200... good old adrian flux want 2500! JOKE!

Hi well like the above people, I did a quote online with AF and got £1151, turns out that was TPF&T, then found out that it would cost me £2100 fully comp with 1 years NCB at aged 20 and my first year driving at 19 with 0 NCB cost me £1600 fully comp.

Just did a quote with Admiral, they offer me £821 for fully comp...so thats £1279 cheaper than AF on fully comp and £330 cheaper than AF on TPF&T... -.- what the hell's going off there?

Think I'll be going with admiral, unless you can tell me the website is wrong and you can beat Admirals quote of £821 FC..

Luke

P.S I have no passplus nor do i have any points on my license.. also this is all on a 1.2 punto 3dr 8v..w reg. Oh yea also this £821 is on a 10 month bonus fast track thing too, £960 for full 12 month.

One thing with Admiral I found out recently... the courtesy car with fc only covers you while your car is being repaired and at no other time (unlike some insurers)... then they ring you (in my case two days after the cooling off period :chin: ) to ask if you'd like to take out courtesy car cover for an addition £20-30 for the year (I can't remember exactly how much). My fault for not reading the t&c carefully enough I suppose (I usually do).

Based on third party experience of friends and family if your car is worth as little as mine (98 Cinq) and you have the money in the bank you may as well keep the £20-30 and put it towards buying another car the weekend following losing the first one, as the insurance can take so long to pay out and will try to rip you off on the final value anyway...

Luke, it's worth doing the pass plus especially if your local council part funds it (like mine did), it gives you 1 year's NCB with certain insurers which then becomes a proper year's NCB at the end of the year to re-use wherever you like. I didn't do mine right after passing, iirc there isn't a time limit on it.

Majority of insurance companies are the same.

Regarding the difference between 3rd party and fully comp, it's alot more than having payout for your own car in the event of smashing it up. So much so the difference between the two levels of cover have never been worth the saving and I've always been fully comp. Might be worth people looking into this before deciding to save £30 as it'll cost alot more than that to get your car recovered should you end up in a ditch or rip a wheel off etc.

I've considered going TPF&F due to the value of my car but as you said, you get the extra bits too which add value, plus it's always been <£5 extra for me though I did only start driving at 21 or 22.

Hmm I always thought you could only do passplus 1 year after passing.. well I might look into it tbh, been on motorway etc not like it'll be hard now :p Not sure if my council will part pay..tight f**kers, might look into doing it tbh

Also to add onto my previous post of the Adamiral quote, I saw a post on these forums of someone's daughter having the own insurance and being the main driver but also putting a family member on and it was cheaper and its not illegal. Well just put my dad on it who has got 30 years NCB(Doesnt even go that high, only to 6 i think) and it dropped it by another £110, so overall its my insurance and im the main driver, my dad can drive the punto aswell all for £711 :O  I must say thats a bloody bargain...:slayer:

Luke

Hm, I'm not 100% about that time limit now, it's still worth looking into though in case you're not too late. Mine was part covered by Staffordshire county council, I think I paid £50 and they covered the rest.

It's curious how the insurance can go down when you add a second, more experienced driver, of course it's 100% legal, it's only iffy if your dad was listed as the main driver and you as a secondary one even though you use the car most of the time. Not sure how the insurance would check up on that in the event of a claim though.

I think its cause its my policy right but with my dad on it then he'll want to drive it now if i was a "boy racer" and I crashed the car...parents would kill me so it prob cheaper knowing that a responsible parent is also on the insurance who wont "boy race" and most likely wont allow there child too...but thats just a random guess.

There a certain word for where the parent is the main driver and their child a named driver but the parent doesnt even drive the car... can't remember exactly what it is but if the child drives the car more than the parent then its illegal.

Luke
