insuance from old to new car

quick question....

I am hoping to pick my new car up next week from the dealer, but they want a copy of the insurance cert/cover note before i collect the car so they can get it taxed.

Now the problem is i was planning to keep my insurance going on my current car then have it switched over on the day of collection. If i have to get them a copy of the cert then i will have to be without a car for a day or so.

Just some advice on what people do when they collect a car from the dealer. BTW this isnt a brand new car so it wont have the fiat 7 day insurance.

Re: insuance from old to new car

just tell insurance that you want to change it but keep other car insured for a week or so, they normally let you for a few quid or free

Re: insuance from old to new car

Ring your insurer and tell them when you are changing ie next week give them all the new car details they can then process it and produce a new certificate which you can give to garage to tax it ,the insurance will then transfer on your chosen day/date,
The only downside is you need to get times right if you say change it on wed at 15.00 thats when it changes you need to be at garage with old car (if part ex) before then. If for some reason it all goes pear shaped they will probaly charge you for changing back to old car again.
good luck with new car.

Sounds good, just don't bash the old one into the new one.
