Free 7 day car insurance from Fiat

I've just bought a Panda from a Fiat dealer. The rep told me to get the free 7 day Fiat insurance- primarily so that he could get the car taxed.

Have you had any problems with this? It's not a swizz, is it?

Can I still arrange my own insurance to start from when I pick it up?

Yes, this is not a swizz, just means it is easier to tax the car for example.

It is done through Norwich Union I believe, well mine was. I would still arrange your own insurance though.
