Not allowed mods :(

Right this is my first post so be gentle

Ive been insured with NIG through Adrian Flux for around a month, and i rang them last night to ask about mods (ive just got some tinted rear lights, gotta start somewhere eh). I was told that the insurer doesn't allow ANY modifications and that they would void my policy. But ive read through all the booklets and stuff i got sent and nowhere does it mention this, and i wasnt told when i took out the insurance. Really im annoyed at myself for not asking about this when i took the policy out, i'd been looking forward to getting my first car and doing bits and bobs to it for years Any ideas? Is the only option to cancel and find another insurer? (which isnt really an option as i cant afford the cancellation fee)
Cheers for reading

Re: Not allowed mods :(

then you might as well not have any, as it will be invalidated. and to encourage that on an enthusiasts forum is just plain stupid imo

Best bet is to save mods until renewal. Or do mods to tidy up the car (e.g. painted cam cover etc)

Re: Not allowed mods :(

Yeah the idea of doing it anyway never crossed my mind, being 18 and in my first year driving i cant risk doing anything that might void the insurance. Rang Flux up again and they said they are going to ring me back with prices of changing to a different policy that would allow mods, although how much that would cost i have no idea. Should they have told me when i took the policy out? I asked about putting alloys on and they said to ring customer services in the future and ask, shouldn't they have said that the policy didnt allow mods then? Im not a happy chappy

would you nick a bright yellow standard punto and drive it through the town centre or would you nick a bright yellow punto with a stupidly over the top bodykit and 17 inch black alloys?

When i rang they said that anything (e.g. the tinted rear lights) would void the insurance, although as these are standard lights that have been sprayed this seems a bit harsh. I just presumed that visual mods would have been allowed, even if i had to pay more for the insurance . And now they will have on record that i asked about tinted lights, so if i crash they would most likely check? Maybe im just being overly cautious and paranoid, but i dont want to risk not being covered

Re: Not allowed mods :(

Just had a call back from Adrian Flux. They can offer me insurance with another insurer which would cost just over £150 more than im paying a year now and wouldnt charge me a cancellation fee as im just swapping policies. They would also refund my current insurance (which i paid in full) from today till the end of the year. The new policy would be with Equity Redstar and would allow any visual mods for no extra cost as far as i can gather.
