Car Insurance for learner driver

I am getting my sisters 1.4 8v 3d active sport as my first car. I will be learning to drive soon and had a look at some car insurance quotes on money supermarket and confused.com and was getting quotes of £2000-4000 with the cheapest being £1047 by quinn direct. So far I am leaning towards them (obviously) but I was wondering if they are any good or if anybody can recommend some good car insurance companies. I am male and 17 years old.

quinn gave me a quote for my uno with some of my bits declared (alloys, lowering kit etc.)3rd party obv. - £479

quinn very good im with them.

quinns good for learners but check how much it is once youve passed. as i think it goes up by alot as soon as you let them know youve passed.

I just got a quote from quinn direct telling them that I have passed and it went up to £3000! This is rediculous the cheapest I can find now is £2000 on gocompare and confused.com which is till too expensive. I can only afford up to £1000 so I have no choice but to look for a cheap car and say goodbye to the grande punto .

even a "cheap" car is Expensive to insure its all down to risk as a Young Inexperienced driver your going to pay for it, Ok you insure a £500 Seicento i bet your insurance wont be a lot cheaper for a few reasons such as:

no matter if your in a New or an old car and smash up the Kiber of a brand new Bentley the insurance company will still have to pay out.

the Old cars are less safe than the Grande Punto the GP has a 5* EURO NCAP rating where as a Seicento is a 1 1/2 * rated so if your involved in an accident and injure a passenger in your car they can claim damages from your insurance (loss of earnings etc) also the more the insurance will have to pay the NHS as car accident hospital bills are sent to your insurer

The gp has ABS brakes which in theory reduce the risk of loosing control in an emergency stop

BTW if your mum or dad has a clean license or minor points try adding them as a Second named driver by insuring them as well it looks good that a more mature person is on the policy so the risk to them appears lower...

I just added my dad and he fetched it down by a good few hundred tried putting my mum on as well and it went up so just insured my dad

also check the level of excess you will be liable to pay should you crash..

DONT TRY the idea of been insured by Dad and been a named driver on his policy if you are the main driver as insurance companies aren't stupid and will soon be able to tell by looking at the car if its owned by a young driver. say you have an accident and the insurance assessor looks at the car why would dad have a boy racer sound system the latest pop music cd's in the car for arguments sake..

Lol yeah thanks for the advice. Unfortunately my parents don't drive but even after getting quotes for a 1.2 corsa they are still pretty much the same as for the 1.4GP. I am better off just forking out that bit extra for the insurance and having the GP. Is £2000 still way too much though? What kind of figure should I be expected to pay as a young new driver for a 1.4GP do you think?

Quinn direct aren't brilliant, had a few problems with them, but tbh you won't find a cheaper quote than with them i doubt. When i passed my test and declared it to them, it didnt go up at all!
