I have a panasonic lumix dmc-fx9, as well as an olympus e500 digital slr. The lens is razor sharp on the panasonic, it is slim, light, and the battery when charged lasts for a couple of months of light use. The image stabilisation does work, only criticism I have is that indoor flash coverage isnt as good as my old fuji s304, but the camera is far superior. When i bought it, think it was may last year, full retail was £250 i think, i paid £180 on ebay for a new one (manual was in french, but english version available for download from pana's site, though I havent needed the manual) it is well built, and despite me carrying it in my pocket without a case (tut tut.....) it has 'aquired' very few scratches. The same camera is also available as a Leica, think the price tag is around £400 though as a Leica......... you can do far far worse than an fx9. My bro in law has just had a fuji f30, excellent cam for low light (he is a birdwatcher, so needs something that works with low light to use with his telescope), but a bit bulky
