3 Final photos

Haaay

am a photography student going on to become a wedding and event photographer in the next few months.
Am just about to finish college on Tuesday, and need to collect feed back on my 3 final images, iv left it a bit late so any help is much appreciated thanks :D

comments and criticisms please

oh by the way the proposal for this brief is

'Portraiture, with out the people'

i was going to use models but had 5 let me down so decided to create portraits of people using only things that show them, including, occupation, and general interests

:D thanks Carly

Re: 3 Final photos

Why do you all keep viewing the photo but leaving no comments :(

Perhaps im missing something but what you have created shows an Artistic thought over photographic talent. Do you have any words to go with them explaining method and thoughts.

Ive never done a photography course but surely they are looking for photographic skill rather than arty farty stuff?

If it were me i would be taking a photo of like a single object right up close using an extender and wide angle lens. Then geting 3 or 4 focuses and comping them together in photoshop to make a really well focused photo.

Or setting an exposure for like 20 minutes outside as the sun go's down and geting the world as it happens.

I spose we would need to know the full brief before commenting. What you have done you either like or dont like but it could be totally to the brief and executed very well.

Just my 2 pennies

Also from a technical perspective your photoshop cutout brush is a little soft but again with no real information, this could be something that you wanted to achieve.
It looks like you have photographed the objects on a black background without concern for the colour of the image that you will be placing them. If you take a photograph without knowing where the image is going to be used then use white. Its much easier to selective colour white to blend with the colour of the BG.
Or if your really clever you will take the photo on a similar colour mood to your final BG.

the Proposal/brief had to be set by my self, the proposal states;
that i will create 3 portrait photographs of people, building up an individual image of each character by combining aspects of there interest, occupation and hobby's i would like the over all look to be quite surreal

some things were shot in the studio for example the coffee, i did consider the backdrop it was photographed on, that one is cut from a black background, which worked better than the white one for black reflections.

it is all shot and explained in my log book the technical side of the photography for example the ISO appeture and focusing, the amount of artistic-ness in the images is purely choice, but still considered photographic in my opinion as its edited together using photoshop, am fully aware some people would not agree :p

i did not photograph the sun set out of choice, my specialised field is portraiture but i wanted to add a twist to it for my final major project

thanks for the feed back though, more is welcome :)

the first image is a self portrait,
the second image is a portrait of my boyfriend 'reuzoath'
and the final image is a portrait of his nan :)

my image is bright, colourful, cluttered, messy, full of sweets and cameras, with hints of other things like my glasses and car keys because this pretty much sums me up

Reu's image contains his beloved Fiat, dog and coffee which he drinks constantly the zebras are his favourite animal, this contrasts with him working in the zoo as well.

the final image of Alice, is her obsession with collecting dolls, as when she was a young child, she had no toys in war time, she was telling me she loves the memories which are brought back with the dolls, there's also lots of queen memorabilia and shells, which she likes.

like that fact that you used items to express each persons personality and not just using a pic of the person lol

they look well put together do the images i like(y)
for example where the coffee is being poured into the lake the water ripples around it and the shadows under the animals, nice touch(y)

not sure about the bf's punto tho:p jokes

So are we meant to be judging your Photography skills, your Photoshop skills, or your composition skills?

So you photographed all the various components yourself?

How long did you spend on the Photoshop cropping?

And tbh the images don't really tell you any of that without your descriptions....

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted in the way of feedback....

Any feed back is welcome, yes i photographed everything my self, and spent quite a long time editing, you would not believe the anouts that went into it, any comments are welcome the more the better for my log book :D thanks

i no brin should have put my Sei into it :p

Cool....:D

Well I think your photography has been let down a little by your Photoshopping skills.... :(

Maybe the first image could have been real-life composited?

I admit the Zebras in pic no.2 might have been trickier, not to mention the giant hand and cup!

:D

Personally i would be marking the work down for the sheer amount of photoshop work. Anybody can grab a load of images from google and comp them together. Photography is about controling the environment and taking as few pics as poss IMO.

It may seem like we are ripping you a bit, but its a very easy thing to do with what you have asked. Dont let it get to you im sure its more than fine for Uni level stuff.

The pictures are okay, more well composed in the 1st and 3rd. The second picture contains other images which seem to be badly rendered i.e. the bird and the dog. You need to make them look like they are part of the picture, using tools such as burn and dodge in photoshop (assuming you're using photoshop).

thanks for the comments all though am sure non of you are professional photographers lol

all the photographs were taken and carefully set by my self, some tripod mounted for a slightly slower exposure

the first image was taken in one shot but it looked awful so i shot all individual items and comped them together in a messy yet creative way, as that best describes me.

i understand about the editing, but if i edit any longer ill be bald the amounts of hair am tearing out!!! quite frankly iv had enough of the college project, am just loosing all interest, id much rather be at a wedding each day :)

than photoshopin which understandably i chose to do, but its just wore thin now, so its not had maximum effort. just hope i can scrape a merit in college, as then i will finish

DDM over all,
(this is one of my worst projects, yes i fluffed it on the major one :S)

as most people are saying opinions rather than the technical side adn concept of the images :)

I'm not sure if i'm helping here, but my favourite is the one with cakes :p
I just think it looks very thought out in respect to distances and layout, and the one with the dolls is very good also. The one with zebra's and the coffee cup just seems a little rushed, like each of the photoshopped images onto the original photo seem very soft around the edges.. and, although i can see why you did the coffee cup with the black backdrop it seems very pixelated? Like you have resized it several times or you used a low resolution camera. One other slight niggle of mine is the reflection in the camera lense on the cake one, i would have taken another picture of the other side of the scene, so that you could photoshop the reflection into the lense, on the whole though i think it's a very good effort :)

I did/do Graphic design at college btw :p
