Does compare very well with the likes of Calumet, but fails the ever growing Sony Alpha userbase.

Smile Re: Lens hire

Hey there,

We're pretty genuine, we've been up since January we currently only hire out lenses for Nikon and Canon DSLRs as they dominate a much larger market share. Sony is coming up I must say they are releasing some nice kit we'll have to see how it goes, we will look in to it for the future maybe sooner than we expect.

It's funny how it's been mentioned on here, I haven't been around in a while I use to hang out a lot on the GP boards

I messaged Dave a moderator, who is also the person who started this thread to ask if it was possible to put some facts straight, although please delete if you find this inappropriate.

Any questions just give me a shout on here or drop me an e-mail: adham [ @ ] lenspimp.com I'd be more than happy to help.

Kind regards

Adham

Range topper currently is the Alpha 900, rumoured to be being replaced by A950.

The A900 is 24 Mpix full frame.

With the rumours of the 950 being 32Mpix.

Not sure how it compares with the 1DmkIII though.....

Re: Lens hire

Well the equivelant will be the 1D Mk5 which doesnt seem to have as high resolution. That stands for nothing if the sensors and lenses are inferior on the Sony.
I apologise for my lack of terminology, im new to this whole photography malarky and only really know what i have learnt from taking pics lol.

Me too

Sony won for me on pricepoint on the day. Not sure that it does perform as well as a cannon at the end of the day but perfect for me. Accessories & Lenses seem to be a little dearer sometimes due I guess to the smaller market at the moment.

Re: Lens hire

I use a Sony A380. Mrs 001 has a Canon 50D. Although the Sony is a great camera, I have to say they have a bit of a way to go before they catch up to the big boys. Like Alex, I chose because of the price, which was made even better by the fact that Sony were doing cashback offers (still waiting for my money though)...

Another good thing about the Sonys is the in-built image stabilisation - something lacking from the Canons.

Interesting website though! I am sure Mrs 001 will be interested in it.

Re: Lens hire

Im not sure if its true or not but i have noticed a big difference in the quality between the mid price DSLR's.
I think we are going to wait a few months and see whats in the pipeline before we think about replacing the eos 1D MkII. Looking at the specs of things i think that something as close to an alternative to medium format as we will need will be announced. TBH even with MKII you can take shots of product that has plenty enough detail for a large box. Granted you need to take 3 focuses and resize in photoshop but even medium takes 16.

They "didnt recieve" my cashback form, though some gentle persuasion and a photocopy sales reciept they paid out.

Had forgotten too that we have IS built in, and its an option on canon lenses, thus pushing the price of those buggers up.

Re: Lens hire

This is why I sent mine via recorded delivery Signed for on 22 January - so they have a little time left before I give them abuse
