Im new here, Recently bought my mother-in-law a Fiat Idea 1.4 16v which i have to say is a excellent car. There is one down side, the clutch pedal doesnt fully return which sometimes prevents the car from going into gear, iv looked at the pedal at it seems as though someone has attached a spring to the middle of the clutch pedal then wrapped it around the pedal housing bracket to force it back up.

I can see a spring at the top of the clutch pedal wth 2 clips either end but that looks fine but it is a pig to get to so im not 100% sure, could it be broken? or something else that anyone has come across?

To get round the problem iv wrapped a extra strong elastic band around the pedal which has been doing the job for a few months now but i need to get it sorted because if she breaks down my name will be mud.

Cheers

I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow and post it on here for you to compare, mine's also the 1.4 16v engine.

Great Little Cars...

Im quite surprised with how good this car is and like you say they are very rare iv never seen on the road in England before

Hi my son had this clutch peddle trouble with his Idea last summer it was a fiddley
fix but free. the cause was muck in the valve in the clutch master cylinder, getting it off his car was the worst job no air con so disconnecting the pipes and two bolts no problem but getting under the peddle box to get to disconnect ball connector is awkward just force it off with a screwdriver. After getting it out of the engine bay
remove the circlip and get the piston out inside the piston is a small sprung valve
carefully get the valve apart and blow out the passages a hard blob of muck flew out of my sons car!. After reassembling it with hydraulic grease put it all back and fixed!.
