OK my saon has driven our 06 Idea to France and phoned to say both the front headlight bulbs popped at the same time. Any `idea` why this could be? Also just before he went over we were stuck in traffic and the rear brake light fail light came on on the dashboard. I turned the car off and the light went away and they have been cool ever since. Last of all, the gear stick no longer returns to centre position when the car stops. It feels sticky and you have to fish around to from 2 to 3 etc. Any CHEAP ideas. Thanks. Dave, Norfolk, UK

Hi, and welcome to FF, :)

the gear change cables sound like they are sticky / corroded,
you should be able to lubricate from either end.;)

electrics..;

I'd suspect a poor earth connection - which bulbs..??:confused:
2 x dip beam + stop /tail bulbs..??

I agree with Most Easterly Pandas, re the headlamp bulbs.............IF i recall when I had an IDEA. headlamp bulb change was reasonably easy, and cheap!.
As for the gear change......I always make a point of lubricating the gear knob base of all the cars I have had............lift the shroud around the knob, and spray with white grease, or any grease, but an aerosol can is a doddle to use.
It may be the gear box is at fault, but I would lub the gear change stick anyway.Good luck:)

Hi my son's Idea gear stick/change went haywire last summer it would not canter and the gear change went stiff/rubbery. It was the cable from the stick to the gearbox that was at fault its inner wire cable had Brocken stretched and unwound. I obtained a pair from firm trading on ebay [email protected] who supplied a pair of reconditioned cables for £70 .I do not know how much they would cost from dealers not cheap I suspect.
