Hi, I have recently bought a 2004 Idea Eleganza and can't deactivate the rear door child locks. I have followed the manual instructions but the switches will not turn to the vertical (unlocked) position. Anyone come across this problem? Thanks in advance for any help as it would be much appreciated.

Hi, and welcome, :)

is it a "pivot" or a twist..,
I'll have to look at our when it's back,

ok ,
it's a put key in slot and TURN 90 degree job,

TBH I would get a SCREWDRIVER that fits well and use that.. KEYS are TOO expensive / fragile,
try a squirt of oil / plusgas / WD40, and soak for an hour, then try the screwdriver,
it MAY be that pulling the door handle a few time , before/ during the twist MAY help,

Hi Charlie, many thanks for the advice I will give it a try using a screwdriver and some WD40 and let you know if it works

Hi, sorted! There were two problems. Firstly, there are two key sockets on each back door. I was trying to turn the wrong one, although the manual shows the wrong one also!! The passenger rear door turned no problem and the child lock was deactivated. The one on the driver side would not budge. I decided to take the door trim off to have a look at the mechanism. No chance!! everything is hidden behind a metal plate covering the entire door. I thought, "well I've gone this far!!" and decided to remove the plate. I then spotted the problem. I suspect the panel had been off before as the outer cable for the internal door release had not been put back into the holder and was keeping tension on the lock mechanism. As soon as I slotted it back into the holder the child lock turned no problem. It took me a good couple of hours to sort it but I'm sure I saved a lot of money if I'd taken it to a dealer. Many thanks for taking the time to read and offer help. :)
