Looks like someone in the factory put the rubbing strip slightly in the wrong place. It was 40 degrees the other day and I opened the back door which caused the strip to catch something at the front. The strip is ruined. I had wondered why the front of the strip had lost its paint when I bought the car - it was in the UK and obviously never got hot enough but it must have already hit something to knock the paint off. Here in Spain it has extended more and really destroyed itself.

If this had still been under warranty I would have been straight back to Fiat. It's obviously a manufacturing defect. The other side is fine as the strips must have been put in the correct position. Perhaps you could all check yours - then just make sure you don't open the back door when it really hot;)
