Hello fellow Fiat owners.

I bought a second hand Fiat Idea 1.3 multijet 54 plate last thursday 23rd April, by that evening while driving home the Engine Failure light and warning came and the car went into limp home mode and I couldn't drive any faster than 40mph. The light then went out on the friday but came back on the Saturday morning so I took it to the garage where I had bought the car and it was booked in for the monday morning.

On my journey to the garage that morning I was driving along the dual carriage way when the warning Maximum Temperature beep up on the screen and temperature gauge flew up to hot and the engine cut out!!!! I rolled to the side of the road turned the engine off and on again and the temperature gauge went back to cold and I carried on my journey everything seemed ok.

The garage had the car for 3 days and they said they replaced the MAP Sensor and that should solve the problem!!!!!

Surprise surprise it didn't, the engine failure light came back on this morning (1st May) while my 6months pregnant wife was driving the car. I'm taking it back to the garage this afternoon.

I'm starting to lose faith in this and am thinking i've bought a dud.

has anyone else had these problems? i'm a bit worried, think I want my ford puma back!!!

Over on the Panda pages similar problems to this have been solved by spraying WD40 into the 2x engine ECU connectors.

Once pushed back on tightly this seems to cure the problems for about 6months.

There are quite a few people doing this and it seems to help them. Atleast you know the sensor isnt faulty now.

It is frustrating that people only seem to trade cars in when they have a problem and the next person to buy it then has to go through this process of sorting the problems.

Hello, I just joined forum, I have had an engine warning light come on after a clutch change and limped home, my local garage cannot reset computer and so only Fiat can help. My worry (as was with you) are they going to fix the problem or not, I still am undecided and am using my scooter to work, not quite as relaxing.

Hello, Thank you, I will try this out tommorow morning.

Welcome FiatIdea to the forum:wave:

Sounds as if after the clutch change the car was started with a sensor disconnected thus bringing the light on, as the garage was a non-fiat garage (I assume?) they only had a generic code reader so yes a quick trip to nearest Fiat dealer & tell them you only want the light put out.

I have had my Fiat Idea for about two months now and as soon as I got it I noticed it was displaying the notification 'Air bag failure, shut off engine'. I contacted the lady whom I had bought the car off and she said this had been the case for age's and to ignore it. However, then my temperature gauge went right to the max and the warning notification came on so I refilled my coolant which was rather low and thought that would be that. The following day, I noticed that on turning the car on, the engine light came on and stayed on and now a new warning notification is saying 'engine failure, shut off engine' as well as the constant airbag warning notification...! Starting to get really worried I've been ripped off, although the car is driving fine. Another strange thing is that my lights stay on until I turn the ignition off? What's going on? If anyone could advise, that would be great as I really hate going into a garage totally ignorant, many thanks, Missy

Hi, and welcome:)

you've got a bad connection somewhere..,
worth getting the car plugged in to diagnostic kit,

where are you / the car based..? ,

Charlie - Oxford

Thank you for the info, I'm based in Norfolk. Where would one get a diagnostic kit.....☺? Or do I need to bite the bullet and go to a mechanic? Kind regards Missy

there is a member @g8rpi who's got the correct kit, and is over your way,

my old Idea had the airbag light set on / off by bumps in the road = poor connection.

charlie

Hi Charlie and @Missy13 Yes I'm happy to put my MES kit on the Idea. I'm actually just north of Cambridge so not sure how far away you are Missy. Do you come over this way? I noticed an Idea in the company car park recently so I might even have something to compare with.
The issue(s) could be a bad connection, battery cable etc. Airbag light will need sorting as it's an MOT fail.

Also try taking the battery off and giving it a FULL charge and see if the warnings go away. If the battery is low on these it throws up all sorts of errors. Had it on mine when I first bought it as the battery was dead when I picked it up, got it running and had all sorts of warning errors on the drive home. Charged the battery and they all went and never came back (only problem I have now is the battery on it has one dead cell, so needs changing).
