MK1 Punto

Hi All,

I have a mk1 punto 75elx, i have the original standard HU and speakers, i am looking to change the speakers (i dont want any in the parcel shelf) so my question is if i change the speakers in the doors will it make much difference to the current sound if i keep the same HU?

and also is it worth replacing all the speakers?
or
which of all the speakers should i replace for the best sound improvement (rear, dash or door)?

thank you all so much in advance

Re: MK1 Punto

hi, disconnect the rear speakers (either side of the parcel shelf)

the speakers in the doors are 6.5", if you get a decent set (i have a sony set in mine, and are surprisingly good)

id get jbl though

you can pick cd players up on ebay for £30, i see some really nice ones got for £30-40, avoid unknown makes, stick with sony, kenwood, pioneer.

Thanks, why disconnect the rear set?

i am going to keep the original head unit for the moment, is it still worth changing the speakers if i am going to keep the original head unit? thanks

well disconnect the rear unless you drive facing the rear? most people sit facing forwards so want the sound infront of them.

well i wouldnt bother if your just keeping the original, your unlikely to notice a difference, if you plan to change then yeah, but id rather fit a cd player instead of speakers first.

heres an example of what they sell for on ebay-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-CD-HEADUN...QQcmdZViewItem

i had a cd player on the standard speakers, sounded pretty good tbh.

Re: MK1 Punto

ok, but if i replace the Head unit i will lose the steering wheel controls, which i know you can get adaptors for, but how easy are they to fit? and does the fiat have a standard stereo connector?

thanks so much for all your help

well yes it will loose them, and i know they do adaptors, but dont know if they do one for your car, or how much or anything about them, but they do just plug in i think, no messing with the wires!

Re: MK1 Punto

changing the speakers to a decent pair from an old out of date pair can make a hell of a difference, it did with mine, ive got some JVC 150w speakers, for 25 quid, the sound was much improved and alot louder. but i am upgrading HU or gettign an amp which will give even better sound and more power tothe speakers.

so first get some nice speakers, 30 qudi for a decent pair or around there ( alwaysy go and tyest them first). then go for your HU. As bow said the rears arent needed unless you ahve people in the back often. as the driver wants the music more than anyone else

Re: MK1 Punto

just be careful in choosing a pair of speakers as the standard speakers are shallow and there is not much room to fit aftermarket speakers in the holes a collar maybe necessary which ones will fit no probs guys come on ?

your pandas are probably old and cheap tho lol, i find the front speakers in the punto elx to be of decent quality, and i couldnt notice too much difference in sound when i changed to expensive speakers.

so id only change the speakers if your changing the headunit.

Re: MK1 Punto

Sorry to hijack this thread, but i'm also looking to change the speakers in my Mk1.
They are only in the top of the dash and somewhere in the rear! (don't know where yet, not looked) none in the door!

In an earlier thread, you mentioned that the ones in the door are 6.5".
Can you tell me the sizes of those in the front and rear, so as i know what i'm looking for?

Just looking to improve on the sound quality from standard speakers.

Thanks

Re: MK1 Punto

oh god no!! sony head unit, jvc speakers, man

disconect the rears replace the fronts with components, sound better if your running of an amp rather than the head unit, run a 4 channel amp, ie alpine or jbl, get a set of alpine type s comps for the front, or somethin better if you have the cash, for the back run a 12" sub bridged off the remaining channels on the amp, will sound amazing, for a head unit go for something along the lines of pioneer or alpine even a jvc head unit.... but kenwood or sony NO!!!

Re: MK1 Punto

The front are 8.7cm, but it is a very shallow hole, so any speakers in there will never be pwoerful.

The rear speakers are either side of the parcel shelf, and are 10cm. But, you can buy a 13cm adaptor so that you can fit larger, more powerful speakers.

in the front dash you will be strugeling to find anything becuase of the small aperture, the ones in the front are 8cm, theres a jbl set but they are hard to get hold of, i am also having the same issues
