| Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 Hi, I fitted my sony model cdx-ca900 head unit in my punto about 18 months ago but it's been nothing but trouble since. I had to more or less guess the wiring because the previous owner had just cut all the wires off. It's been powered by the red wire from car to the unit problem is every so often the unit cuts out and beeps a few times then comes back on. I can't seem to see why I thought it was my dodgy wiring to start but I checked that as far as I think is correct and it still does it, weird thing is some times its fine for weeks then itll suddenly do it again. I just wondered if anyone has any sort of punto to sony wiring advice I could follow to make sure all that's correct. Also whilst fitting the aerial plug into the back of the stereo with it been one of those right angle ISO ones its correct for the unit but the right angle was so short it wouldnt fit in properly and I ended up snapping the thing off by accident, well ever since then I just don't know how to go about getting a new aerial plug to fit so it works properly. I asked Halfords what I'd need they were clueless and they just rip u off anyway so I don't really know how to get my radio working cos I'm not sure how well those plugs u can buy will couple up with my bare wire and also wether it wud just snap again with them all been right angle buggers! Just one last thing, the plastic frame that goes round the edge on the front of the sony unit to just hide the metal n neaten it up I hate the damn thing cos I can't get it to clip on and stay on as soon as I go to take my front off to take it in the house or whatever the frame falls off, anyone know how to stick these on properly? any help appreciated and sorry I have so many damn problems I'm a bit of a beginner but if I could find instructions which I can't seem to anywhere I'd be able to sort this mess out!

| Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 Hello again I've just bought an aerial plug from ebay its the male one i think thats DIN and I now need a converter to make it to ISO (female? the one that is always at 90 degrees for some crap reason) as that is what is needed to plug it into my Sony HU. Thing is I've heard elsewhere that sony HU's normally need the male one the standard ISO yet mine is the other one??? :S :S Anyone know how to rewire a plug onto the aerial wire i.e. where should I put the thick wire n where to put the think wire that runs down the middle of the cable?

| Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 hey ive managed to get new plugs to fix to my aerial cable so im gonna sort that out saturday so hopefully after about a year or more of no listening to the radio i finally will be able to. While im at it im gonna look at my wiring up of the HU so what is this thing about the yellow and red wires from the HU to the punto like joining them up or something? Also where do I put the earth cable? I think its black?, ive got these sony wiring drawings which says sumthing about connecting the 12v wire but to be sure to connect the earth first but i dont know where to put the earth??? Any help greatly appreciated.......

| Misseys Stalker! | Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 Are you sure you have a female aerial socket? it could be an aerial adapter inserted into the stereo..,. as for the wiring, I wouldn't mess with it if I didn't know what was what,.,. Ill try get ya a wiring diagram 2morro,.,.,

| Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 Thanks if u cud get a diagram that wud be great. In the back of the radio it looks kind of like the socket u see on the back of a tv so in other words it doesnt take those plugs with the longish pointy bit it takes those that are more like tv aerials but halfords told me sony units take the DIN plugs (the longish pointy ones) but it doesnt at all it takes the other type which i think is ISO more like a tv aerial plug

| just can't get enough | Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 you can get an adaptor which slides over the arial plug sony's use both types of socket on there headunits, on the wireing conect the red and yellow to the twin socketed yellow wire that will give continuos power and you wont have to keep retuning the radio

| Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 I've done that im hoping that will solve my problem. I don't think I had to retune its just that at any random point whilst listening to cd or aux (radio hasnt had aerial for about a year so no radio at mo in process of fixing that) the stereo just cut out and beeped a couple of times then comes back on then it wud do it again then go back to normal it was totally random n i can only put it down to it either been that i didnt have red and yellow joined until i did it today or that the unit it ovrheating. But due to the randomness of it happening i think its more likely to be the wiring rather than heat.

| just can't get enough | Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 the beeping is an alarm to remind you to take remove the face of when the ignition is turned off so it was prob a connection problem

| Re: Help with sony head unit in punto mk 1 That explains it. I would have never thought of that cos in puntos theres no accessory ignition position so the radio stays on even without ignition so thats why ive never heard the beeps apart from then n yes it would make sense that its the connection prob. Fingers crossed ill have no more trouble then, its been fine today!thanks!
