haha what a day

so i get my amp installed today, its a really crap one i got off ebay for about £15 (second chance offer thing), i have a set of fusion 6x9's which are 360w, if i put the sound to come out of the one speaker it sounds good plenty of base no problem, if however i set it so music comes out of both speakers they sound really tinny and dreadful ive played with all the settings and cant get it to sound right out of both speakers at all, as soon as the fade is the same they just sound really tinny. both speakers work fine however just not together (wierd i know)

so after work whilst me and my mate was out in the carpark he says try his stereo in to see if thats the problem, so we did and it was as we expected still the same, however in changing the stereos over and playing about with the settings, the amp being on had completley flatend my battery so the car wouldnt start then , turned the ignition on, it would light, try to start the car and everything would light up then go out straight away, finally got it started and left it running for a while but what a farce doing all this was.

so i need you nice people to recomend me a decent amp now, it needs to go on these 360w speakers ive got, will the 600w wiring kit be ok to run just these 2, i dont want a really high power amp just something decent to run these.

thanks a lot, sorry for the long post , if that makes sence to at least 1 person ill be happy

Re: haha what a day

any 2 channel amp with a high pass filter will do for a pair of 6x9s.

are you sure your problem isnt because you were wiring one speaker up in bridged mode and when connecting 2 you used normal 2 channel mode? that would explain the difference in output you experienced

What amp is it?

I don't know - these people having problems with rear speakers/6x9s. The solution is so simple..............don't even bother!!!! Rear speakers are just not needed

Re: haha what a day

its a bandit one, have a search for bandit 500w on ebay (its the blue one) really small looks cheap although it was very cheap, im going to try get a mutant 2 channel amp tommorow which says it does 2x 100rms, the 6x9s i have say they are 75rms so judging by what ive read so far on various threads this should be ok ?

im having another problem, when i turn the headunit on and listen to music it sounds tinny as described above, however soon as i switch the engine on i get what sounds like interfearence , a high pitched whiney noise

im beggining to wish i hadnt botherd at all now, i disconnected the power cable for the amp so i didnt run this risk of flattening the battery again although even with this disconnected its still getting power from somewhere as the leds are still lit, i take it its getting power from the back of the headunit via the remote ?

thanks again guys any help is a big help at the moment.

Sounds like the amp's on a permanent live somewhere - where I don't know......

The sound could be down to the fact it's a cheap amp.

You may be able to cure the alternator noise by separating the RCA and power cables from each other. You may be able to reduce the alt whine.

Re: haha what a day

i dont think its on a perminant live, as when i turn the headunit on it powers on and when i turn the headunit off the lights go out.

im going to try ground the cable to something thats bare metal and see if that clears it up, im going to a audio place today which has a amp in the sale at £40, so ill try that and see if it fixes it.

Re: haha what a day

right ive seperated the cable but im still getting a lot of feedback and its drowding out the sound of the music (no good )

i cant figure out whats happening and why i only get the feedback when the engines on, ive split the rca cables so i know its not that, as its a 4 channel amp i tried the other channel and its still the same, im trying another amp at lunch time but i doubt its that.

where am i going wrong ? i dont know what else to do

oo i also was told it could be the ground so ive grounded it somewhere else which ive had checked and have been told the ground is fine, if i unplug the rca cables obviously the noise stops but then so does my music,

Re: haha what a day

no not yet i havent been able to, i was going to call into motorsave at lunch time although the traffic was very busy so i ended up turning off and coming back,

when the ignition is off now it sounds fine, the balance is sorted so when its set to come from both speakers it sounds good, however again soon as the engine is on it sounds naff (interfierence) im going to rip the power cable out and try and re route it to see if thats the problem, if not im going to try some more rca cables tommorow and see if thats fixes it although a few mins ago i rememberd i have some gto speakers in the front dash so im wondering if there interfiering with anything so i will disconnect or take those out when i have chance ( will do this at break time 4pm) and see if that gets me through the brick wall im currently staring at,

thanks for you help thus far chaos, ill keep you posted matey

Re: haha what a day

riiiiiiiiiiiite, i fealing like im getting somewhere now

i think its just alternator noise, i was having another play about earlier and if i mess with the dials on the front of the car ie set the fan to 3, then 2 then back to 3, the noise will go up and down ( 3 it will be more high pitched etc)

i told my dad just because i was bored and he said ooo youll need a suppressor, i couldnt believe my dad could actually make sence of my problem, he said it will be alternator noise.

he said when u dip the throttle does it do it, i said i dont know i dont drive with it on it does my head in, so out we go into the cold to try it and low and beyhold i dip the throttle it gets more high pitched....

there was a bloke from telewest doing a install to next doors house and he said it was because of a bad ground, he said ground it under the seats (at the moment it was grounded to the seat but the 3 bolts that hold each corner in) he also said i would need a suppresor and that any motor shop would do them for about £10 (halfords he said would be about £20-£30 ) so im going to have to source one of these now from somewhere tommorow

the only concern i have at the minuite was when i was moving the ground from place to place to see if it got any better it would spark, am i being a complete noob in thinking that grounds should never spark ?

hopfully i will be able to sort this all out tommorow and go back to enjoying my music and hopfully make the last post on this very annoying thread

sorry for the long post

Re: haha what a day

Grounds will spark as i found out when soldering in my car when i forgot to disonnect the battery. If you're working with the electronics always disconnect the negative battery terminal

Re: haha what a day

*Update*

right a little update for those botherd.....

i today tried another 2 amps
tried a 2 suppresors

none of which have fixed my problem, ive been to a highly recomended ice place where i bought my headunit, those guys spent about half hr messing about with it but didnt know what it was, eventually they said they couldnt help me as they couldnt do anything with it.

i went to another place that does audio equipment and they said they would try a suppresor, no luck

if i put a suppresor on it does get rid of the noise although it also makes me speakers really really tinny and quiet ( as in turn the headunit up max and you will hear it)

ive been told now that i have to get a ground for my alternator, wtf , i asked how much are those and he said a few quid, i said right ill have one then can you do it, they said no we dont do anything like that youd have to go to a electrician or a place that deals with car electrics.

as u can imagine its really doing my head in now, ive bought the £30 wiring kit, gave my mate £25 for fitting it as when he showed me it it did work just soon as the engines started it doesnt...

im very confused now and dont know what to try next, does the alternator ground thing sound about right, has anyone done this ?

what a farce this whole thing has been, still ive learnt how to do it myself though and for any future cars i get ill know how to do it.

help

Re: haha what a day

how do you mean ?

i grounded the cable to the battery and it still didnt work, i also grounded it under the seats,

in the morning im going to rip the wiring kit out completley and run it outside of the car, i suppose i should try and source another battery and see if it works when theres no other cables near the engine just try the battery in the boot or something to eliminate problems.

really am clutching straws now, it doesnt help i wasnt clued up to begin with but im slowly learning.

Re: haha what a day

Hmm...................if its alt whine then it's usually down to a dodgy earth wire. Were the earthing points clean and bare?
