Question Installing a dvd player headunit!!

Hey have just bought a motorised 7" dvd player in place of my headunit for ma mk2 punto but its not easy to get it to fit because of all the wires at the back! Is there any other way of gettin to the back to move them out the way(If you get what im saying).

Re: Installing a dvd player headunit!!

im afraid its just a case of wiggling around and trying to shove any connector blocks into little gaps out of the way. look at the wiring loom too, see if theres any adaptors or lengths of wire that arent needed anymore to shorten the wire length.

in extreme cases i've 'removed' some of the plastic from behind the stereo to make a place for all the wires to sit

Re: Installing a dvd player headunit!!

ive found the problem with the help of ma trusty tape measure. For those with a mk2 ul prob notice, when you take the headunit out there is a knob about 1" long that sticks out where the back of the headunit would sit! because of this useless bit of plastic i cant push the unit fully in! has any1 got any ideas how to get it off?! Obv im going to have to cut it out but is there anyway of getting access other than through the hole for the HU??

That plastic bit inside where the head unit goes holds the head unit in place so its sturdy and secure, its on most cars. The knob bit at the back of the head unit then slots in so the music dnt jump

Re: Installing a dvd player headunit!!

Its perfrectly safe to remove that plastic bit though if you want to, nothing's going to short out for 2 reasons: 1) its plastic 2)the radio chassis is earthed anyway.

Out of interest, which dvd player are you installing? I might have some hints depending on the model

Re: Installing a dvd player headunit!!

Its the RIPSPEED one in halfrauds lol, was £399.99 so thought wooow thats cheap. Dvd, mp3, vcd, svcd. 7" motorised, very nice ive got to say. the only downside (i dont know why they didnt include it) but you can't ffw or rwd music tracks and cant rwd but can ffw video!! weird but for that price i dnt really care
