Power Wire?

Ok i have a 1000 amp and 1000watt wireing kit for it. Im getting another 1600 watt amp. Do i need to get another power cable thats thicker and split it or will the 1000watt wireing kit be ok to split?

Re: Power Wire?

What gauge is the cable and what are the current draw of the amps?

Re: Power Wire?

Those powers are peak powers, but tbh I would get another cable and run each amp seperatley, or upgrade the cable to one big cable.

I don't like the way wiring kits are aimed at amp outpit really, kinda stupid. It should be based on the power consumption of the amp and not what it can put out (too many variable, PMPO, RMS, ohms etc).

I wouldn't like to run both off that cable on its own iif i was wiring them up though.

Re: Power Wire?

if your running 2 amps off one cable i would put in a fused splitter box and choose your fuses carefully! and make sure the wire is rated high enough for the combined current drawn plus a little extra

Re: Power Wire?

You need extra cabling. I'm not sure if 8 awg would cut it for the 4 channel amp or whether you need 4 awg. What are the fuse ratings of the amps, then I can tell you straight away if the cabling's suitable

Re: Power Wire?

Re: Power Wire?

Being a bit of a slacker I didn't notice the links posted above.

All I can say, is WTF? Where the hell did they pull 1000 & 1600 figures from? Their arse more than likely, silly sods.

Re: Power Wire?

The peak powers of the amps dont seem to go with the RMS output....is this true....should i have a look at getting a different 1600w amp as i havnt bought it yet.

Do i need to look for a higher RMS output?

Hold your horses a minute
What's your budget and what is the amp going to be used for?
