Doctors orders :(

My doctor has advised that If I continue to subject my left ear to loud noises I will very definately go deaf. I have suffered vertigo (dizziness) since bursting an eardrum in the 80s. So what?

He advised that although I claim to listen to music at an acceptable level the precussion felt within the car is doing the damage. I may have to lose my boot build

Should I listen (forgive the pun) to him. I cant believe he didn't just put it down to a virus and prescribe anti-b's.

You obviously enjoy your music otherwise you would just take the doc's advice.

So if you do enjoy it so then weigh up your options.

Listen to in full volume for now, and when you no longer have full hearing, sit back in your seat, close your eyes and remember those good old, tuneful days.

Or turn it down a notch and continue to listen to if for many a long year instead of deaming about how it USED to sound.

Your choice!

It isn't the volume though, I have it on a pretty low setting as it's mostly classical music but the percussion is having the same effect as if it were loud. It will probably have to go!

Re: Doctors orders :(

Was that a doctor, as in your run of the mill GP, or an ear specialist?

If it was a specialist, then turn if down, if it was a GP, get to a specialist for a 2nd opinion.

You could always go down the really high SQ low power route

Just a GP but he had all my ENT history in front of him. I had my inner ear destroyed years ago and it will never heal. Low frequencies sets it off and the dizziness starts. Got to accept it, I had to get rid of my guns for the same reason years ago but thought I would give it a go.

*drools* Hifonics Series VIII...........

Bozzy, what a dilemma - but the only one who can decide is you. You could always see a specialist and see if they back up what your GP said .

Been seeing a specialist for over 14 years, it was her who diagnosed the damage in the first place. I was in hospital for 2 weeks when it happened so I cant say I'm surprised. Thing is the music drowned out the tinitus.

Oh, well, time to use the classifieds.

Re: Doctors orders :(

Don't sell it, not yet.

Wait untill you're deaf and build something louder so you can still hear it

Re: Doctors orders :(

Bit of an late reply, but if it's just the one ear drum can you not use a decent custom fit earplug to wear in just the one ear??

They can cost a bit, and have to be fitted proffesionally to mold to your ear canal, but they are designed to attenuate all frequencies, but maintain sound quality across the freqency range. They simply lower the volume.

Therefore you should be able to listed to the music and maintain your hearing and would be usefull for other situations as well

Know what you mean as my old shooting plugs used to let the low frequencies through but protect from the high. As the specialist said, it's not so much the volume but the percussion/movement of the air around the cabin that's screwing things up. Also said that the other ear will adjust to balance things out over time so just gotta go through the hurt. Stilosporting is the new owner of the kit now so watch out for a similar post from him in years to come.
