Sub Under Punto Driver Seat

Hi

Can anyone recommend a decent subwoofer to mount under a Punto Drivers seat?

It doesn't have to be a large sub, just something that is going to produce a bit of a kick

I have been reading about subs needing a certain volume of litres in a box to get best performance but obviously I have space restrictions

An ideal solution for me would be a sub mounted in a box that fits neatly under the seat and has velcro on the bottom to sstop it sliding powered by my amp

Thank in advance

Jamie

How much you wanting to spend? A Crystal CMP-8 is one of the most rated subs out at the moment. Its and 8 which will work best in a very small box. It has been tested and ICE heads all over the world would swear blind that its a 15"er before seeing it. It really is that good.

Cheers custard boy and sando, yes i'm looking for a sub specifically under the drivers seat because you can really feel the bass, you can get the same effect of a much powerful system for a little cheaper, i'd go up to £200 for a decent sub under the seat,a crystal 8 inch sounds perfect, I would prob make my own box and cover it in carpet, I wonder if it has to be of a certain volume to get the best performance from the sub, I bet there isn't much space to work with under the seat

I have a sub built into my chair indoors rigged up to PC and it really enhances the music!! its only a crappy old sub but sounds so much better when mounted there and thought why not try it in the car but buy a better sub and look into building a box myself

Thanks for your help

Infinity used to (still might) make the BassLink, it's a small but pretty meaty self-contained active sub unit. Designed to be stuffed under seats where it can be heard and not seen! No idea what it costs.

No chance! My mate has two in the back of his Swift, they really wouldnt fit under a drivers seat! They're a lot bigger than you think! :)

Cheers everyone, some quality ideas on here for getting the right sub, im definately going to build this after xmas, I think the plan will be to get a 8" sub that can fit in a small ported box. Get some mdf and some carpet and some speaker terminals, some velcro to hold it in place so it doesn't slide and it should sound superb

The boot is ok for subs but I always used to put the sub behind my seat so you can really feel when the bass kicks, this will be exactly the same thing but under the seat, hopefully it will be discrete enough to hide from thieves

Thanks

Jamie

Really, Sando? I always thought they were a small item! Hmmmm, I must've been thinking of another sub. Some company definitely makes a similar thing that goes under seats, can't remember who it was if not Infinity.
Anyway, good luck with your sub box Jamie. I built a big sealed box for a 12" Pioneer woofer in the back of my Punto, took a while but worth the effort.
Useful stuff to know (most of which I found out through my own misfortune!): Measure up properly, use a decent jigsaw to cut the wood (cheap ones make a right mess), watch for mdf splitting when you put screws in, and use plenty of silicon sealant!!!

Good advice, remember to leave the silicone sealant for about 4-5 days before putting the sub in though...it will need time to go off, otherwise the vapours start to corrode the subwoofer cone material.

Additional tip for making a good box. (My recommendation).

Use 19 mm MDF.

BEFORE putting in screws, apply glue to edges to be fitted together, then drill a small hole through both. Drill with a larger size through the first MDF - this should be the size of the screw, hence the screw should pass through the first MDF and stop in the second where the smaller hole is. But before inserting the screw, use a very large size to drill a lowering for the screws head.

And yes use sealant.

Do NOT use the latest Black & Decker jigsaws. Those with snap-on blades. The blade snaps out off position and makes the saw pull left or right, making a really crappy edge, not suitable for anything actually.

This makes a perfect box. :D
