Ipod hole

What would I need from a stereo to use my Ipod? I don't care about integration or mp3 tags showing on the display or controlling it from the stereo itself.

Is it possible to have a line out from the Ipod (ie the headphone socket) and a line in to the stereo? Would I be right in thinking that the head unit would need an AUX IN socket?

Cheers for any help

Re: Ipod hole

Lots of stereos mainly Alpine from what i've seen have "ipod compatable" all over them... so have a look on a few of the usual suspects

Bassjunkies
Caraudiosecurity etc...

Re: Ipod hole

you'll need an aux in on the headunit.

what head unit do you have?

I have a sony one, which has dual phono input for the cd changer - but it will not let you use that input unless you have a cd changer connected. to overcome this,i bought a cd changer and a switch box.

The cable you'd need is this one:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...31700&doy=6m10

and this is the switch box that i use:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...23189&doy=6m10

If you have a sony unit and no cd changer, this will do the job as well BUT its prolly cheaper to buy a changer off ebay.
http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_XA...k_Adapter.html

I think on the kenwood units its easy to confuse the HU into thinking you have a cd changer there. cant find the info on it atm though.

Instead, you could use an FM modulator:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...44128&doy=6m10

It plugs into the back of ur headunit into the aerial socket and then broadcasts to the headunit over FM - you simply tune the Headunit into the frequency for the ipod.

OR, if you want to be able to use it in other peoples cars etc then this is quite useful
http://www.everythingipod.co.uk/item...--SKU0065.html

Same thing as the car based fm modulator, but has a larger frequency range - runs off batteries and requires no physical connection to the stero - it broadcasts to the aerial. Not 100% sure they are legal over here.

hope this helps!

Re: Ipod hole

some of the higher spec kenwwod units have a pair of phono plugs on the changer to allow a second changer. mines has, maybe i should get an ipod lol.
kenwood do an ipod adapter fro the newer units but its about £60-£80 which seems a lot for an adapter

Re: Ipod hole

get an iTrip off ebay, they are an add-on to the ipod, you just plug it in the top and its the same shape/size(width) as the ipod so can carry around everywhere. thats what ive got anyway, theyre about £20 on ebay and imo looks better.
