Hello!

I have a 54 plate Fiat Punto Sporting MK2. Basically i decided i would attempt to upgrade my blaukpunkt cd player to a new Pioneer stereo myself. After purchasing the new stereo i removed the old one perfectly and I have plugged in all the appropriate iso adapters and the aerial into the new stereo. However, i cannot get any power, it just doesnt turn on.

I read somewhere that switching the red and yellow cables around fixes the problem. I tried that and it made no difference. To check if any fuses were blown i plugged my old blaupunkt back in and it works perfectly still.

Please, help me anybody!

Thank you!

Thanks for your reply. No, ive only tried it with my vehicle. Ive seen from searching around that its most likely something to do with the wiring? All I did was take the old blaupunkt out and connected

from the car wire thing to the back of the pioneer. Also have the aerial plugged in. Is there any other wiring/adapters i need? Thank you

(sorry im so stupid)

I took the unit to halfords and they said it was faulty. I bought a new stereo - pioneer 3400ub- and they gave me a harness with a long red wire and said it has to be connected to the cigarette lighter wiring? I tried it without it being connected to the lighter and it didnt work. Will paying to have it wired up help?

You may well need the red wire to be connected to an ignition live such as the cigarette lighter wiring. If you don't feel confident doing it you could take it to Halfords or an auto electrician and they should be able to sort it for you.

You could always try connecting the stereo red and yellow both to the car yellow lead. I think that one is always live.

I had this problem the other week with my new unit in my Grande. It's a ball ache but you just need to splice the live 12V line to the fag lighter and it'll spring to life. Being a computer engineer this wasn't much trouble for me but for the uninitiated I'd probably say if you're not vaguely confident, get someone else to do it, I think Halfords themselves change £30, for the sake of arguments it may be worth it for you buddy!(y)

Hi can I gate crash this thread please. I bought a the same came it cam with a different cd player put I wanted mine in there but having the same prob. Why wud it have to be concected to cig lighter when its connected to red cable? I know the radio works and there's a light on it but doesn't power up. Not tried changing fuse yet tho.

The mk2b Punto (2003 '53')
Uses a system called Can Bus

This canbus system links all the components together to allow it to talk and be PITA

Anyway, the stereo uses the canbus system to tell when to turn on and off

So there are 2 thin wires, pink and white and black/pink i think they are
DO NOT connect anything to these wires, only original stereo's

The issue then occours you have a 12v+ Constant, but no 12v+ Switched ignition
So as a result the stereo gets power - but doesn't know when to turn on

So this is why you have to hitch a ride off the cigarette socket, so when ignition goes on - the cig socket becomes live, a feed obviously goes to the stereo and Hey presto : it works

Hey Guys,

I just stumbled across this site not long ago and I have a solution for anyone who has had or still has this problem.

I bought an acoustic solutions mp3 in car DAB/CD/AUX/MP3 player. It would show power (red light) is going to the system but the faceplate would not come on. Seemed faulty and dead.
I stripped NOT switched the red and yellow cables.
These are the power cables the unit uses.
I tied the two cables together and hey presto the unit works.

I took the to Halfords to check with a friend if I done it right.
He said that's exactly what they would do.

Guys this is a simple 5 minute job if you're looking at doing this yourself and you don't need to know anything more than I do. You could also manage this if you're new and never done something like this before.

Just make sure it's the two power cables (yellow and red)

I have done this on a 53 Plate Fiat Punto mk2b with the big snazzy headlights :D

Let me know if this works or even of it doesn't!!!!
Hope this helped

Paul.

I've got the exact same problem... I've tried three different stereo head units with the ISO adapters... There's a whirring noise to indicate there is power going to the stereo but no lights or life, I've read umpteen different blogs and they all seem to point to the red and yellow wires being switched or crossed. I've used the bullet plugs to do this but still nothing. I'm intrigued by the previous message about stripping the wires and connecting them together which would be my next port of call, but... Is this referring to the wires on the ISO adapter or the wires coming out of the dash? Thanks in advance!

Ive just picked up a 54 plate panda and i had my old stereo to put in the hole that was left by the previous owner. when i connected it all together (which i thought was good to go as it had the correct fitments) i got background power but no front signs of life! i followed this thread and connected the stereo orange and red together on the vehicle red and got it working but without memory. so all i need to do now is connect the vehicle orange to that combination and it should work fine. Thanks for the pointers!

It seems these cars need the red power source involved across the board to get the tunes going!

Hopefully someone reads this :)

I have a fiat Bravo 57 plate and seems to be the same trouble as others suggested, I remembered doing this in my last car (astra) to join to cig lighter.
Can I please ask though joining the red and yellow from the ISO of the radio is that then to go to the red wire of the car wires?

I don't want to blow a fuse again as the first time I tried haha
