6x9 install question

Punto Make 2 Active Sport Standard Parcel Shelf????

Where best position wise is it to put the 6x9's? I don't wanna cut the holes and the shelf go all floppy on me. I am guessing as long as I don't cut through the strengthening bar then the shelf should stay pretty stable??

cheers

Re: 6x9 install question

I would use mdf as a support when you cut your holes out. It would cut down on vibration. I doubt that it matters where in the parcel shelf you mount them, it wouldn't be really strong enough, and mdf would be needed to do a decent job.

Re: 6x9 install question

If you mount speakers at the edges of any shelf it puts less strain on it. An MDF one would be better, but if you want even better than that use Ply wood. That is a lot stronger than MDF, even if it is 'slightly' harder to cut. I virtually guarantee it wont warp. If you do use MDF and want the speakers in the middle, built a structure to the bottom out of 1 inch by 1 inch rods. This makes it a lot harder to bend. I should know i use to have 4 6x9's in my parcel shelf in my old fiesta. Anyway you cant beat ply wood.

P.S. if you just put mounts onto the standard shelf it will lessen the effects slightly but the shelf can still move coz it weighs nothing. Make a new one and keep the shelf whole.
