I installed a new HU into my Grande with the steering wheel stalk adaptor and connected everything properly i assume to find my steering wheel controls were still non-existent. I connected the blue wire from the patch lead to the steering wheel interface on my kenwood stereo but nothing worked! The black cable i assumed doesn't need to be plugged in from the patch lead? I couldn't find anything for it to be conected to anyway after looking a good half hour... I bought the autolead pc99-x89 stalk adaptor and patch lead as below

Any ideas?

Is there any way you can upload a pic of the black wire. I have never fitted one of these things but normally black = Earth. If you havnt earthed the unit then it wont power up.

I'm having the same problem, I think by black wire he means the DIN wire that comes in the PC99-KEN package, which is only for higher spec Kenwood stereos so I too am not using this.
I've done a test with the multimeter and the PC99-X89 is getting power (red and black wires from ISO adaptor), it's also getting a constant 10v from what I assume are the signal wires from the CANBUS (white/black and brown/black IIRC) and 5v from the remote blue wire into the PC99-X89 from the headunit so I can only assume it's wired up correctly, the box has already been back to dynamic sounds as we assumed it was faulty and they have either sent us a new one or the same one back (no idea which as there was nothing in the envelope to explain). Would you be going on the assumption that the unit itself is faulty? Is there anyway d'you think I can test it?

Would the Unit have similar wires to the Head Unit? If so you may have to do a similar thing to the power of the HU. I.e Plug the red into the yellow?

It doesn't, all it has going in is one plug with red and black for +12v and earth (which comes off of the ISO harness), a 2nd plug with what I assume to be the CANBUS signal (again, this comes off the ISO harness), and the last plug with various yellow wires coming out and going back in (I assume to make the unit talk to itself properly) as well as the blue remote wire from the headunit which as well as switching the unit on, I guess also carries the signals back to the HU to tell it what the buttons do.

Tbh, I think the unit is borked and am tempted to shell out for a more expensive version because I can't see any other way to connect it other than what the instructions advised. If you think it'd help though, I can grab a couple of pictures of the offending cabling?

Yeah a couple of pics may help. TBH i have never seen one of these units but a quick search would show that a lot of people have tried the cheaper one and failed to get it to work.

As for the red wire. Could this correspond to the broken connection of the red wire on your ISO? You have put the red into the yellow on the HUs new loom so this means that the red wire on the cars side will be dead.

I haven't done anything with the red/yellow wires, where'd that come from?
Oh wait, this is for Carrie's Grande, not my Sei if that's what you were thinking, not that I crossed the red/yellow on the Sei either though...
I'll go and grab a couple of pictures shortly.

Edit: Files attached, not very clear I'm afraid but should do the job. The only manual connection I've made is the one you see up close in the last picture

Sorry i didnt notice this post.

I can quite clearly see that the Red wire is plugged into the yellow one on the Hu's loom in the first pic. :p

Im just having a look at the others now.

Edit:- Yeah it looks like red (sposed to be perm live) is actually going to a switched live feed. The only thing that i can thing to do is to try and input a constant live feed to the red wire on the control adaptor.

Ahh, I see what you mean I hadn't mentioned before but I'd tried that both ways around (it's just a bullet connector so easy enough to switch around), unless it worth making the red (constant live) go to both red and yellow into the HU but again, I can't see how that would affect the steering controls as the HU works perfectly well either way around, it's literally just the steering control interface that isn't working.

No i think that if you have tried both ways round then it should be fine.

It doesnt help that i cant see what is going on with the cars wiring. I havnt heard of many Fiats working with an ignition feed.
Im contemplating whether or not the car actually connects the HU through the Can-bus.
Something isnt right there if its working from a ignition feed unless somebody has fitted one aftermarket?

i have the same problem but with the pioneer patch lead with a pioneer hu

the only difference i have done is make my own ignition live off my fag lighter so i was woundering if i should connect the red off the steering wheel adapter to my ignition live to see if it works or not?

But iirc red is Permanent live (sorry im useless unless the car is with me then i just do it lol) In theory The red from the Steering adaptor should go to a permanent live. Im not sure if it would make any different though.

I dont spose anybody comes to south east kent. I would love to have a play and see how these things work. I never bother in my cars because i dont like standard steering wheels.
