Looking for a sub, amp and wiring. Simple. Been told JL are good, and that a 12" sub is preferable, maybe 2? Ill add the rest in time but i desperatly need a sub for some bass!

I listen to alot of metal so i need solid punchy bass for the bass drums and a nice tight sound.

Anyone got any ideas?

Budget is pretty much whatever is good i could stretch for it but not TOO much

Cheers
Joel

yep i would be looking at jl and diamond. I would build the boxes sealed at 15 - 20% over the recomended size and use plenty of wadding. If an enclosure is too big you can always stick some mdf in there to tune it too you taste.

Found the perfect sub but what amp should i buy? I want to run a diamond component pack at the front and in time a new pair of speakers in the rear as ive blown one of them, and obviously the sub.

Any ideas?

When looking at anything you are not concerned by Max Wattage in the slightest. Only ever look at RMS.

For that sub you will be looking at around 500w RMS so you have a bit spare on the gain pot to improve quality. If you try and underpower a speaker you will be more likely to blow it than over powering.

Wooohooo i have some time. Lets sort you out. Trust me dont scrimp on the amp it is as important as the sub.
First one of these for 150

Not a lot else TBH. Now is a good time for selling.

Mac Audio Fearless 1 700w @ 2ohm (broken gain but well set before breaking) for £100? LOL

So how come the sub ive bought, you can only find a few amps that will power it well enough? Arent there zillions of amps?

What's so different about my sub that means you can only find a few amps?

Just trying to learn like. Cheers man.

The market seems to be very slow ATM. Recently there has been loads of second hand gear going cheap presumably because of the recession. Things like spare audio equipment is quick cash is somebody is in a rut.

ATM its just finding the right amp for your sub and in your budget. I just dont you to get something cheap and be unhappy with the quality, so its a waiting game to get exactly what you want at a decent price. (y)

Also i have forgoten what coil config your sub is :bang:

Ah i understand now. It's a 2.5" voice coil mate. What are the best places to be looking and what should i be typing in?

You in offline mode on chat aswell mate?

Na i have just left the forum idle for ages, busy busy at work so cant stop to chat recently.
I mean what resistance are the coils is it a dual 4 ohm?

As per convo here is an easy tweeter build.

mate, honestly im the same, you cant beat a good bit of five finger death punch when you're driving!
and my set up is perfect, i have a jvc head unit, and from that i have a JBL 12" 1000W sub running into a JBL amp, although, i have to say thats about all the info i can give you on that one, i was given the sub and amp by a friend as he rolled his car and had no more use for it, but for good sound it WILL cost you, the sub and amp alone cost him about £800
