Re: Cutting into parcel shelf

I've used both a bread knife and a jigsaw in the past, depending on what material the shelf is made from.

To stop them wobbling, you need some 'U clips', like these:

what car is it going in? i put some 6" round speakers in my old mk2 puntos parcel shelf. they where held in quite strong as the parcel shelf in a mk2 punto has a mettle bar inside it. if your is the same just make sure when you cut threw the bars leave a couple of mm gap between the bar and speaker as you dont want it vibrating. going to put them in my new punto when i get tints on.

Re: Cutting into parcel shelf

Yes, you use the self tappers in conjunction with the clips I posted up there.

You slide them over the 'lip' then screw the self-tappers into them for a secure and tight fit.

You can buy the clips in a small pack at Halfords.

Re: Cutting into parcel shelf

Dont cut the shelf. The MK2 shelf is easy to fabricate out of MDF. I pulled off all of the lugs and bars and attachments off of a standard shelf so it clipped in properly, had extra support and still went up and down with the boot.
You will notice a vast improvement in sound quality and bass response. Also then you can use threaded inserts under neath to screw the speakers down solid
