Hi guys, im new here

I recently bought this set-up

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8526.html

Ive managed to get all the cables through grommets and under panels to the boot but i dont know what to do for my ground cable.

Can i run a cable back to the negative terminal on the battery? (im not bothered about doin this as i didnt find it hard when laying the positive cable)

or can someone show me where to earth in the boot as i dont want to get it wrong

Thanks

You can create your own ground point, drill a hole in the body, (check what is behind the panel first!) clean away the paint, fit a bolt and a tag to your ground wires that will go ver the bolt you fitted, tighten up and protect from rust / oxidisation with paint / copper grease / vaseline whatever.

I wouldn't recommend using the seat belt bolt. The panels to ground are connected with cement which isnt a great conductor. Granted for a small system it should be fine but there is always that small chance that it go's wrong. If it does go wrong then best case scenario, it blows your amp. Worst case it sets your car on fire.
If i were you i would do as foxy said in the spare wheel bay.

Ok thanx guys, im gona pull out the spare wheel tonite and have a go!:slayer:

Oh yeh does that mean its not a good idea to send a wire back to the negative terminal? or is everyone avoiding that coz its hassle?

and lastly i did have my fuse in the boot but after readin on various threads ive put it closer to the battery. was that a wise move?

That was a very wise move yes. And there is no need to go back to the battery with earth because the battery earth only go's to the chassis up front anyway. Also the shortest path travel is best.

Ok well last night i pulled back sum of the carpet either side of the boot and found a bolt attached to the chassis of the car with some wires going to it (y) (passenger side near the lights).

i guess this will be suitable enough as the other wires are using it as a ground point.

ill try n put up sum pics so others can use it aswell

No i wouldnt use that point. It is for the rear lights which have a minute power draw and therfore discharge in comparison to an amplifier.
Trust me do it in the spare wheel bay, it doesnt take long and wont cause any problems. (y)

fair enough, i pulled up the spare wheel last night and dont think it would be a problem to drill in their as there's not much beneath it and i know its the chassis of the car.

Cheers guys

I done mine under the carpet in the boot just reamber to sand away any paint so you have a nice shiny silver metal part which your ground wire is makeing good contact with and then put vasaline on everything

Well i pulled back the carpet last night and pulled out the spare wheel. sanded down the paint till i could see shiny metal. drilled a whole (was quite hard gettin it through the metal with my old drill ), put a nut and bolt through and tightened it up with the ground wire. covered in vaseline and viola it worked!

Cheers for all your help guys, im well happy with this as its my first set-up and worked first time :)
