Red face Complete Noob needs advice on speakers...

Hi,

I bought a Punto before Christmas and its running great. I'm going to buy a new head unit that supports mp3 and reckon i need to put in new speakers too. The bass just doesn't seem the best at the moment, i think they're the standard punto speakers.

Can anyone give some advice on what to look at? A friend recommended i just consider an active sub and stick with the speakers i have but that seems like overkill. Is it possible to get speakers with good mid and bass and high freqs or do you just get mid/low speakers and put them in the back and then get tweeters for the front? Or do you just get 4 speakers that are all the same?

Also i'm a little confused with coaxials, component and dual cones. I'm probably going to buy from these guys cus i'm from ireland http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/ so it'd be great if someone just pointed to a set and tell me why they're good.

thanks in advance for any help.

This is all just my opinion-

Never get a sub if your sticking with the standard speakings it's just a waste of money as all you'll hear is just bass and nothing else!

I'm not to familiar with punto speaker set up but if there are none in the back?
It'd would definately be worth running a set of 6x9's or 7x10's (i'm running these) from your parcel shelve with a well matched amp....

Again i'm not sure what size the front speakers are but i'm sure the manual will tell you or a search on the forum will help but replace these with a decent brand...

With regards to the headunit get one that supports WMA aswell as most people with PC's tend to use WMA instaed of MP3 so you then have the best of both worlds as you can fit more WMA tracks than MP3 of the same quality on a CD......

Better still Rather tahn listening to me do a Search on Punto ICE and i'm sure you'll find a few threads much more helpful already on the forum

HTH

(P.s I can't be bothered to read back through and see how many mistakes i've made.lol)

Re: Complete Noob needs advice on speakers...

thanks for the replies guys. i've got 4 speakers in the punto at the moment. Just went out to have a look and a proper listen. Basically the front ones are mounted on the top of the dash and are crap. The back ones are marginally better, some bass at least.

I agree about the sub drowning out the rest of the speakers, not worth the money.

i reckon what i might do is replace the front speakers with something really good. i just have no idea what the size is but reckon its small so my options will be limited.

thanks for the help.
