I've just put new JBL speakers in the front, replacing the old ones. They fit perfectly, apart from being able to replace the standard covers that fitover them.

The speakers stick out too much on the bottom edge, stopping the bottom of the cover from being able to clip in. Also, the covers that came with the speakers are too big to fit in the space left by the standard covers.

I therefore have my new speakers open to being knocked, or covered in dirt- something I'm not too keen on!

Does anyone know if you can buy aftermarket covers, or modify the origan covers to fit. Any help would be much appraciated!

You could cut some spacers from MDF to fit these between your chosen speaker covers and the speakers.

Narrow sections of MDF (or hardboard) are quite weak but considerably stronger if soaked in resin. The very best is oil-base varnish (thinned to make it more fluid). It takes ages to dry but soaks in better and creates a very strong composite. Dont attempt to cut or file the soaked MDF until the varnish is 100% dry.

Paint when you are happy with the fit.

Dont forget to make sure the plastic sheet on the door panel behind the door trim card is not split or loose. You will otherwise soon have some not very good speakers.

I had this problem also. What I did was snap off one of the teeth which wouldn't fit (I think it was the bottom corner nearest the dash), then I drilled a hole through the plastic and inside skin of the door and placed a screw there. Seemed to work well and is a lot more sturdy. :)

What car is it?
