Never wanted any Ice In my Car really but been thinking about It and now I want some!

Really like the Idea of an Xbox, how much hassle and how much would It cost etc?

Butch

Would I just connect the Video Lead from the Xbox to the Monitor and the Left and Right Audio to the back of my Headunit? Then the sound would come out of the Speakers, right?

Butch

Also if your planning on puting in a 360 wouldnt bother the Disk Drive is crap and will just keep eating disks and fcuk up.
Also it will have to be chipped etc etc i believe, there was a thread on this a while back try and have a search.

If you built it out in the boot properly... so that the Xbox is stable and does not move then it will be fine,, you could also remove the game when you want to drive off... im guessin you want it in a different place to the boot? ... will be hassle if its in the front etc...... and why would you need it chipped?, would just like being indoors but in a car instead! ... and if you leave it standard you could get a wireless adapter... and i guess, when in a car park maybe you could open up the boot... try finding a wireless from a local shop or something and play a bit of need for speed .... sounds like a good idea, i was going to do it.. then realized there wasnt enough room to put a screen in my car boot :(

Nice idea but the wireless in a car park is very very hopefull. Most have security passwords

Im not sure that is correct i will go dig out the MP3 car link to the guys that have done it ASAP. But an X-box fooks CD's whilst absolutely still, imagine what would would happen when you hit a speed hump at 40mph lol.

I think the old ones did.
But the new ones, the CD tray is a lot more secure.
You can, apparently tilt the xbox on it's side now without it ****ing up the cd.

I would do it with an old xbox. Chip it or softmod it, stick a 250gb drive in it and install xbmc and a bucketload of emulators.

Plenty of space for videos/mp3's/emulators or even run the games from the HDD - no need for a DVD at all:). The joypad ports are just USB 1.1 so you can convert one to a socket and look at digicam pics or use a mouse for control.

Just to add the later xbox's use a ATX style power connector, so you can use a DC-DC converter rather than inverter.

The Xbox will only be played when the Car Isn't moving ;)
I was thinking about getting a CD/DVD Headunit and plugging It Into that? Then the Video and Left and Right Audio would be running to the same place which should make hiding the wires easier..

Budget ~ I'm not loaded so cheapest possible but I'd rather save move If needed than skimp and get a ****ty job.

Search for the old thread......as stated above the CD's move around in the tray and get all scratched up. Like Karbine said the old ones are worse but the new ones can be tilted etc.....without damaging the disk......however thats not to say they can be bounced over manhole covers or speed bumps and survive.

When a disk costs £40 odd you don't wanna have to but a new one every 5 minutes.

Also your insurance will go up (and yes you HAVE to tell them) and I think its pointless anyway. The 360 was intended for online use, your just not gonna get that in a car. Its cheaper, less risky and more suitable to put a PS2 or an origional xBox in instead. Or even better IMHO to not put a games console in the car at all, unless you have kids and travel a lot.

Better to spend the money on a sound system so you can enjoy what you have spent your money on WHILST your driving, or spend it on performance upgrades so you can get home quicker to play those beloved computer games :p

Agreed Tbh,.... and if im honest, i doubt you would be able to run an Xbox AND an LCD screen off of one battery, so you will need to put another battery else where which is more money and more agro... just buy a nice new headunit, come of speakers in the parcel shelf and a subwoofer in the back with a power amplifier... unless you wanna go the whole blow but by the sounds of it you want something simple?

Ok, I'll give up on that Idea then..
Think I'll get an Amp, Sub, Componants Instead, any reccomendations?

Butch

sounds interesting man!! dont give up so easy :D

my 360 has never eaten a disk, and has been played whilst on top of a sub that kicks out some pretty mean vibrations,

also the power issue is a non-issue, xbox draws MAX 200W and a screen less than 100W, typical ICE system draws at least 500W and easily runs off one battery....mine draws around 1.6KW and is fine on one battery....

throw a car pc in the mix then you can have some fun, usb dongle with internet on it, wifi card turns ure car into a wifi hotspot, or RJ45 from pc to xbox to share internet connection

whack the screen in a double DIN concoction in ure dash everything to there, or car pc to there and big ish screen in ure boot....ull find most electrical appliances are stepped to 12V at some point along the lines (most micro processor devices run on 12V) so you just need to have a voltage stabiliser, and your home free!!! but unfortunately xbox doesn't run on 12V so don't open it up and start soldering away...

I would rather stick my manhood in a blender than own a set of them. You have PM but basically i cant remember all that i have and where it is lol.
I had a look around the place that i was at yesterday and there is a vibe 10" 7th order bandpass for like £40 (just add an amp and go), and a JBL GTO still in box but the cardboard type not enclosure lol for £30 and a simple ported enclosure will be like £30ish depending on what you want. Ill have a look around for anything else
The problem with your budget is you may be able to pick up a sub and amp for that if it is local. But you will need a decent box and wiring etc.

Right as for components is it a Bravo that you need it for, as the new cars speakers arent all that bad TBH, so you will need a budget of at least £150 on the second hand market for a set of comps and an amp to make any improvment.

I still havnt got my grubby paws on a MK2 to sort out the baffle and spacing issues, but same applies as above. Just let me know if you need anything.
