splitting the pre-out

ive got 2 amps in my car but only 1 pre-out on the headunit. ive split it using a few little adaptors etc but i get a high pitched buzzing which increases and decreases in pitch with the rev of the engine.

any idea how i can split the pre out properly or would i be better off getting a new head with 2 or more preouts?

Re: splitting the pre-out

you shouldn't splice the wires, you risk blowing the preamp in your head unit, you should get an amp which takes one set of phonos in and outputs 4 phono chanels out. The buzzing sound is most likely feedback from the amps.

EDIT: One of these

Re: splitting the pre-out

hi
u just need a RCA Ysplitter. I use em on my amps and there fine. I got 3pre outs and use one of them to power both sets of 6x9s. just pop into halfrauds or somewhere and pick em up.

and in reference to GhostWKD splitting the remote lead wont make the noise. all that lead does it tell ur amp if it should be on or off. the hum will be comin from a bad earth OR in my case, make sure ur amp casing isnt touching any bodywork or the seat, I have mine all padded and isolated now and the humming is gone.

cheers
joe

Re: splitting the pre-out

also worth checking that your amps are using the same earth and that they are of approximately the same length

Re: splitting the pre-out

i always used to earth my amps to different points on the car, but was told its best to earth to the same point

i never had no trouble with seperate earthing points either, just make sure earthing point is clean, bare metal

Re: splitting the pre-out

didn't say it was essential just said it was a good idea
it wil clean up your signal

it will depend on what equipment your using too

halfords mutant gear won't make a blind bit of difference but higher end equipment will benefit
