Hi, im after a new head unit that fully works (charges, plays etc) with the iPhone 3G. Also bluetooth would be nice.
So far i've looked at the new Alpines like the x305 but that is a little steep although if it is that good i may still go for it.
Anyone had any experience with that unit or any others using the iPhone 3g?

Be careful when buying a head unit with ipod control. The Iphone (and new ipod touch and 4g nano) charge differently (via USB) to the old ipods, which are firewire.

Most car head units are 12v firewire and may play the iphone and newer ipods, but will not charge them. You can overcome this with a charge converter, such as:

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TS696LL/A?mco=MzU0MzI0OA

Problem with Pioneer units is that those that use the CB-i200 ipod adapter still will not charge new ipods or iphone even with that charge converter.

I got the iphone the other day and am looking for a way of getting it to charge with my pioneer HU. Any help would also be appreciated!

Well apparently the new 2009 Alpines do charge the new iPods and the iPhone 3g as they charge over the correct pin without a converter. Shame theyre the most expensive around at £250 plus over £100 for the bluetooth unit.
Do look cool though!

Which Pioneer HU do you have for your cars set-up mate?:)

I am very tempted to buy the Alpine X305 but with the Bluetooth unit it comes to £400. In the last car I had a sony which was bluetooth and a front aux in which cost around £100.
I just need to justify the extra money to myself, i know it will be a lot easier to control, being able to do it though the head unit. I may just leave the bluetooth unit until a later date.

The head unit on its own.

One question if someone has a similar unit, I read that to select radio stations there is no preset buttons on the unit and u need to go into the menu. If (assuming i get the correct adaptor) i use the SRC button on the cars steering wheel, will the up and down arrows scroll the stored stations?

Have a look at the pioneer head units on http://www.pioneer.co.uk. Their new ones are iphone compatible and a lot cheaper than £400, even if you buy the add on for bluetooth.

I like the look of this one: http://www.pioneer.co.uk/eur/products/25/121/61/DEH-P5100UB/index.html

Well one thing ive just read (second post down) about that pioneer mentions having a usb cable going from the rear but looking at the photo on the pioneer site it doesnt look like there is one there.
In that case would u think that just a normal iphone/ipod cable will work plugged into the front?
Im not sure if i would want the cable just hanging from the front all the time.

Ok well according to the Pioneer USA site it has dual usb, although the rear view is slightly different.
