I will be creating an ICE FAQ section from the useful information that we have collected. So i would like anybody to contribute any information that they have. A special thanks will be given to contributors.

I.e What is the best Gauge wire to use for a 1000w RMS system

Earthing.
Rub down a small section of paint in the spare wheel bay and bolt your earth through the body work

There's usually a suitable bolt already fitted, therefore drilling and sealing a new hole is not always needed (also a lot of people would not want to drill holes in their car). If holes are to be drilled, then people need to make sure that it is absolutely safe to drill, for example, no brake/fuel lines in the way.

In response to your first example - it is not the power you need to look at, the current draw is more important.

good idea with the FAQ's (y)

maybe a short explanation on where to run the wires in certain models. (i know that will be a lot of work and maybe even need pics and actually isnt a FAQ) but could be helpful.

also what about a sticky with some of the main brands that manufactor ICE equipment and a slight summary on each of them saying about price quality looks and stuff(y)

Then they would be a guide, not an FAQ.

FAQ are short and to the point.

good point.

Its a good idea but does anybody ever read the FAQs? Proably even less than those who use the search button!!!

I'm thinking just some basic stickies would be better on things like boot installs, subs, amps, head units, sound deadening and so on.

Yeah but then when people do ask questions that are in FAQ's i can direct them to FAQ and close the thread so we dont have to keep having the same convos over and over and over and over.

Q) What power Cap shall i get
A) Go to FAQ section

User runs to FAQ section and finds Heading
So you asked about power caps
F**K Off

I know that you probably know more than me but :bang: There arent usually any points suitable for earthing a decent amp properly as standard a bit of grease around the bolt after fitting will stop rust and its a small hole in the spare wheel bay there is know reason to be worried about it in my experience.

In terms of Gauging wire the current draw and voltage are a pretty good match between gauges (does that make sense i really cant type today).
Most people will know that they are running a 400w RMS set up for example so gauging is normally done in watts although it would be better to gauge in current.

I have never had to put a drill to any of my cars to install a decent earth and plenty of other people haven't had to either.

Also, manufacturers quote RMS wattages, but some quote at 12V, some at 14.4V and with differing THD percentages. Some brands are known to under rate their RMS wattages. It's a bloody minefield. The FAQ for that could be too general and could potentially hold wrong information. In an extreme case that could lead to serious property damage or injury.

Always use a suitable earth point, which means sanding down an area close to the amp, drill a hole and screw it down with a earth foot.

Dont forget to use vaseline helps prevent rust. ;)

dont even get me started on power caps lol.
sounds good, tho we will just end up with a long list of closed threads. and the section is pretty much a faq section anyway. rarely do we get a good old discussion going, ahh memories lmao

Have to agree with everyone else on here, i think doing lots of FAQs would be pointless, there are so many possible questions due to varations between models of amp, sub etc and then you have the different models of fiat, would be crazyness.

Whats everyone got against power caps? lol i am joking, or am i

the power cap discussion was good, i enjoyed it. have a look for it. just people debating whether they wrk or not etc. good times lmao

When i first got into ICE i thought i needed one as my lights dimmed every time the base hit, then i realised i just needed a half-decent car with a battery that actually held some power :D

A decent battery, large alternator and better power cabling. That should stop the Dimming.

There are many questions that can be answered in a FAQ section and im not 100% sure how it will be formated but it would be good to have multiple navigable pages so it doesn't end up a big mess.
