Hi all, my brother has recently put in to his cinq a 4x50w sony hu that is powering a pair of pioneer 330w 6x9 on the parcel shelf as well as a pair of kenwood dash speakers, I'm not sure what the dash speaker wattage are but he reckons about 50w. At the higher end of the volume the 6x9's, and probably the dash speakers as well, suffer serious distortion. And in my opinion there is far too much midrange and treble rather than any bass to be reckoned with! I understand that 6x9's wont give anything like as much bass as an amped up sub, but would the distortion vanish and the bass and general sound quality from both the 6x9's and dash speakers improve dramatically with the right amp? If so what amps at reasonable prices would you guys reccomend to do the job. And how much would the fitting cost for this sort of job.

Sorry, as you can see I'm not that technically minded, so thanx for any replies in advance :)

I have a pioneer head unit 4x45W and i used that to power the same 330W JBL 6x9s, it sounded ok but nowhere near as gud as now with an amp. The 6x9s wont produce alot of bass even with an amp you will need a sub 4 that but an amp will improve the sound general quality. do the instal yourself, will save you money and if anything goes wrong you know how 2 fix it. hope thats sum help

Powering the dash speakers with an amp probably wouldnt make a lot of difference but the 6x9s are very underpowered which is why your getting distortion.

Power them with a amp which is matched to their rms values, or something like a 2 channel, 300w max amp. A budget make like legacy would be fine, you wouldnt have to spend a fortune.

As for fitting its not overly complicated, but i think halfords fit amps for about 25 quid.
