How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

I've bought those key things that you put into the holes to remove the headunit. How exactly do you use these? I tried inserting them - they don't go in that far. Do they need a good push? Which direction do I push / pull to remove the head unit??

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

they need quite a good push yes, they should make a clicking sound when they're in. Then...angle the clips towards the center of the car so ur angling them to stop them coming out and pull. The clips may release but eventually the head unit comes straight out.

Use keys or bend a metal coat hanger to shape push both in till they click into postition then pull the unit out. I got mine about half an inch out then just pulled it out from round the side.

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

Thanks for the help. Pushed them in quite far last nite, but didn't take it out as I was just about to go somewhere. Thought I'd just give it a go seems as though the keys were already in the car.

My problem lied with that I was pushing them in a direction sort of down on an angle matching the slant that the factory head unit has on the front. But after last night, I now know I need to push straight ahead without angling them down.

Will be removing it tonight.

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

OK, I removed the factory head unit, but now I'm faced with a bit of a problem with the ISO connectors.

Not only do the colour of wires in the Punto not match the coloured wires of the head unit, but the pins are in entirely different places.

Please help!! I take I'll need to do a bit of re-arranging on my Sony head unit ISO connector, but I don't know which cables are which thanks to the stupid colours that Fiat have used.

My Sony head unit has red, yellow, blue and black wires.
Now, which of these matches to the wires on the Fiat?

I have the following wires in the following numbered pins that were connected to the factory head unit.

1 black/pink
2 pink/white
3
4
5
6 red/white
7
8 black

I tried a few combinations last night before I got irritated by it. I did manage to get the head unit to work, but it was on constantly - un-affected by a turn of the key.

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

You have to turn it off manually. Just down to fiat wiring.

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

I can handle that. But which wires go to which wires?

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

All the other wires will be fine you just need to change the red and yellow power wires so they are the same as below.

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

OK, so both the red and yellow from the head unit go to which wire from the Punto? Is it the red/white wire?

No the red wire connects to the yellow wire.

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

I gathered that from the photo, but I mean, these 2 wires (joined) now connect to the ISO connector, corresponding to which wire coming from the wiring loom for the head unit in the Punto?

Like I said in the above post, theres pink/black, pink/white, red/white and black.

Basically, which one out of those colours is the power wire? I'm assuming that black is negative...but the others?

Re: How to remove head unit on Grande Punto?

I dont know. Nothing else needs changing apart from the red wire connecting up to the yellow wire. Do that plug it in and it will all work.
