Re: upgrading speakers

The headunit is fine. Infact, I will probably lose my hearing a good few years earlier due to the volume I play my music at in the GP.

All I have done is replace the front speakers for for some 60Watt (RMS) coaxil speakers.

Gives much more booming bass now.

Word of warning though. The GP speakers (front and back) are riveted to the door, so they require drilling out intially. There is a guide in the guides section on how to do this.

Make sure you take your time installing the new ones. I would go for screwing the new speakers in as apposed to riveting, as if the speaker is fastend down and you find that things are shaking etc behind the door, it is a bit of a pain in the ass to keep drilling rivets out.

Re: upgrading speakers

IME the standard HU underpowers the speakers so much. I have changed my HU to an alpine and the standard speakers are now 10 x better than they were with the standard one. You could try upgrading the speakers but this is pointless as the standard HU will be 10-20rms most likely so it wont be able to power a 60watt rms speaker any better than it would a 30rms speaker.
