Hi

i've removed the blaupunkt stereo from my car and about to rewire the new one in but the wires are coloured differently.

I'll try and make this as easy as possible:

Position and colour of plugs in car:

First Plug
1. Peach/black
2. empty
3. Peach/black
4. Red/White
5. Green
6. Empty
7. Empty
8. Black

Second Plug
1. Blue/Yellow
2. Red/Blue
3. Peach/Black
4. Purple/Black
5. Red
6. White
7. Black/grey
8. Orange/green

On the back of my sony stereo is has two sockets but the wiring is as follows:

First plug
1. Empty
2. Empty
3. Empty
4. Yellow
5. Blue
6. Orange/White
7. Red
8. Black

Second plug
1. Purple
2. Purple with stripe
3. Grey
4. Grey with stripe
5. White
6. White with stripe
7. Green
8. Green with stripe

They have no corresponding colour on the car so this makes it much more difficult. Also, the set up of the 1st plug is different, does this mean i have to swap some of the wires around inside the socket?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Just done the exact same thing to mine, installed a sony head unit but like you said the wires are all different. all i did was just connect the plugs together and it powered up straight away, im guessing you tried that though?

But when i tried to hook it up to the ignition, i couldnt tell which wire was which so i connected to wires together hoping that they were the right ones, but they wasnt and i blown the fuse.

So if your not sure dont have ago yourself.

I haven't tried that yet. Did the wires match up or are some of your wires going into empty sockets?

The second plug is for the speakers and thats a standard layout. The colours arn't really standardised as such - many manufacturers will use different colours, but the layout is standard anyway so plugging them together will work fine.

The first plug is for power, ignition live, ground and then other things such as remote power on, auto antenna, telephone mute, speed signal etc, and the layout of these isn't standardised - different manufacturers lay the pins out differently and use pins for completely different uses altogether so they don't always work straight away. First thing is to just try it. Fortunatly manufacturers DO agree on where the power and ground should be so these will line up. Its just the others that sometimes need fiddling. Ones that lead to nothing mean the headunit does'nt support car features or vice versa - EG. the car may give a speed signal for speed variable volume, but the headunit doesn't support it so the pin is left empty.

Connect the plugs up they will clip into each other. Connect it up to the stereo and try to turn it on. Im guessing it wont so you will need to change the power wires round on the iso lead because a punto doesnt have an ignition live so you will need to connect the red wire up to the yellow wire like this bad diagram:

Excellent cheers guys. It works now. However one small problem, the stereo stays on after ignition stopped and key removed. This will mean the stereo will drain my battery. Anyone else having this problem?

just the way it is on punto. it's on constant live, but that's no problem! shouldn't be switched on when starting the car anyway. if it's a problem wire up the live to an ignition live for example cig lighter.

As said wire it up to your ciggy lighter or just hold the power button down untill it turns its self off. Also when you take the fascia off it has the same effect as turning the stereo off so it wont drain your battery ;)

Hi!

I read the topic, and I have the same problem.

I have a Fiat Albea 1.2 16V EL car (Is it a car like Punto?). The sony cd player is fine, lights are lightning and it is spinning the CDs, and counting the time, but there is no sound.

I checked the fuses, and the CDs (they are fine). Is it possible that the speakers are not connected? And if I use the wiring like in the previous description, will it work for me?

Thank the advices.

The wiring above is a power issue. The first thing i would do is check that the other side with more wires is plugged in properly.

Does your car have a standard sub at all as mine does and i need to connect an orange wire which is located in a small Mini ISO block to the New looms Remote cable.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. (I am not a car serviceman)
All I know is that I have the same (original) wiring and connection like on the picture above.
I think it is an ISO standard, do I?
You mean (sub) the speakers and the little speakers in the side mirrors? Well they are original.
(if it makes easier, I can put some pictures on, but it is the same like above.)

No some fiats have a small sub in the boot. If they have this then the speakers up front may be amped by an amp built into that sub. This would require sending a remote signal which tells the amp to power up and down with the Head Unit.
If your car doesnt have the sub in the boot then its not the issue.

You will see that the ISO block has 2 sides. One is for power and one is for the speakers. The power side from your description seems fine, so try reinserting the speaker side.

If that doesnt work then see if you have accidently set the fader to the rear or something. It should be on 0.

Hi all,
just about to swap my standard grande punto stereo for a JVC one and I've been told I need to connect the live wire from the cigarette lighter - but not sure which one is the live. I've got red/white, black, & yellow/black.
if anyone knows your help would really be appreciated - saves me blowing any fuses :)
