boot build

ok, i am now in possesion of two alpine 10" type r subs, each requiring 0.93cubic foot sealed enclosure and two matched alpine mrd-m500 subs. i have a 1.2 3dr stilo, with a boot which is used every once in a while due to being in a few bands

just looking to hear suggestion in positioning subs or shud i use one or two subs really?

like the idea of false floor and using spare wheel well but wiery of the idea of driving around without spare wheel lol. and i doubt i would fit two subs in there

Re: boot build

Just carry a can of holts that will do away with the spare wheel issue. I havnt ever had a spare in any of my cars and i have been driving 4.5 years.

You wont fit 2 subs in the spare wheel bay and i think that it would be very difficult to do a boot built and still have useable space. Wot sort of sound do you want SPL or SQ perhaps you may be able to sell the millions of subs that you currently have and by yourself a mean 10" and build that into the bay.

Or you could consider building the 2 subs into a removable unit the easiest way to do that is to make it so you can remove it from the front of the car rather than the boot as you can just pull it through the back seats this is how my current box comes out if i really need it to.

Re: boot build

My two subs in my punto are in separate boxes so i can easily remove one of them or both if required. the amps are mounted on the back of the rear seats with long-ish speaker cable to the subs with bullet connectors so they can be unplugged without too much hassle.

Re: boot build

sorry i meant two mrd-m500 amps, ive realisticly three subs three amps, two of each are very good SQ and SPL wise, one sub and amp is prob no more than 100w rms

its been frying my head all day what to do with this. i can get out of buying this no problem but its a good deal. one thought was something along your lines stu, possibly get the two amps and instead get an alpine type x 10" sub capable of 1000w rms but it is one heavy and very large sub

going tomorrow and taking boot apart and seeing what will fit where just before i buy it, ill decide then what to do

o im after SQ more, i dont plan on showing this off or entering competitions, i want this to enjoy myself being the sound freak i am

Re: boot build

Something to bare in mind - You don't need loads of power for subs in an SQ application, but it's certainly handy to have it on tap for willy waving and / or just when you feel like hammering it.

In "SQ mode" I have my sub level set to zero (used to be 4, but I'm learning!), when driving I tweek it a little depending on how fast I'm going to combat road noise losses.

Shame you're in NI as I could give you a demo at Auto Italia in September.

Re: boot build

yea i suppose that is true. my treble and mid bass will be well taken care off, im going to put a set of really good front components amped to full potential then get a cheaper set for the back

i love my bass, so much so playing it in a couple of bands, hence room for gigs lol. i am thinking of a false floor method or possible a boot build in two halfs making it removable. but i want something fixed in place so may get rid of spare tyre flush a mould in there with carpet and glass false floor. ill see how fitting goes tomorrow as the baskets are quite large but volume required for each sub is relativly low

shame dont really get much decent sound systems around here, just a fusion box threw in the boot really, im looking for that bit more lol

Re: boot build

Don't bother with any in the back, it really messes the sound up.

You can't go wrong with a sub in the boot and components in front.

This only true if you are going for real SQ dont forget he said that he does like bass so he is likely to have it up loud and i know that in my car you cannot here hardly any of the treble in the back of the car so i want to fit some back there also.

yeah i've got smoe amped comps in the back purely for filling in the sound a bit. i went for years with front comps and sub but having these in the back makes it a much fuller sound.

Re: boot build

if i dont replace i will defnitly be keeping speakers there, i have been in cars with no rear speakers and it doesnt sound right to me, tho in my car i have my fader turned slightly to the front as people in the back always complain its too loud

OK i have a problem, need some help / advice

i went to buy the subs and amps today but delayed the sale as the subs were too big and no build could realisticly keep my boot and one i think wouldnt be enough so i was thinking of buying the two mrd-m500 amps and running to a single 10" type x sub capable of 1000w rms and have it in my spare wheel bay with a false floor. it onli requires 1.8 cu ft ported box so shud sufficent space

problem is:

SUB: swx-1043d, dual coil, 500w at 4ohm per coil. 1000w rms

AMPS: 2@ mdr-m500
each amp is capable of 250w rms at 4ohm or 500w rms at 2ohm

so you can see my problem, i cant run 4ohm coils on 2ohm set up can i? or is there a way around this

Re: boot build

Sadly not, that sub is way ott for those amps.

Have you not actually got any of the kit yet then?

If not, get one of the amps and a lesser power dual 4 sub.

And I'm standing fast on no rears. If you haven't got a full sound from just a front end and sub then you've got setup issues.

Re: boot build

no i went to hand the money over yesterday but hes a mate and i told him im gona check out another option but i will be buying something off him. thats why i was considering the type x but your right, bit much for those amps and on second thoughts a bit much for what im lookin

can i ask why dual four ohm?

its just that that amp operates at 250w at 4 ohm and if its dual coil ill be reducing it down to 2 ohm to get max power, so was thinkin of using two of amp each putting 250w at 4 ohm into each coil, making me think along the lines of alpine swr-1040 range, 500w rms, 250 per coil at 4 ohm? i can get 12" for near the same price but thought 10" would suit me better. if youve any suggestions i'd like 2 hear them

Re: boot build

Urm im a little confused here that is a dual coil sub so that runs at 2ohm's and so are those amps not bridgeable because that would be 1000w at 2ohm

Because that can show the MRD-M500 2ohms and get most power out of it.
