Getting Power To The Boot?

Ok, I have decided to get my rear speakers amplified and a small subwoofer in the boot, because frankly, my current setup is a bit poo.

I understand all the principles of amping speakers (power lead from the battery to the amplifier, remote lead from head unit to amplifier, ground cable from amplifier to metal surface, speaker wires into the amp)....i hope.

Anyway, to the point.

I can figure out all the wiring up, I just cant figure out how to get a power cable from the battery in the bonnet, to the boot of the car. Could anybody give me some tips (even pictures would be very useful), because frankly, i'm a bit stumped.

Chris.

Re: Getting Power To The Boot?

punto mk2 yeah? took me about a day to find it on mine too!

On the passanger side under the bonnet is a black rubber gromit where a few wires go from the engine bay into the car. Once you have found it you'll need to remove it to get your cable through it. you then need to lift up the carpet in the passanger footwell. The hard part is that the car is double membrane so you think the cable is in the car because its through the hole, but it's actually still under the floor! once you've got it through you can put the carpet back and run the wires under the sills to the boot.

Re: Getting Power To The Boot?

Like he said with the double grommet, then underneath the panel next to the door sill (should have two philips star type screws if I remember right), then under the back seats into the boot.

Some people recommend that you have the powerless going along one side of the car and the other wires running down the other side to prevent interference but I guess that'd only be a problem if you're powering a heavy system. I have all the cables running down the passenger side cos it was easier and I haven't had any problems with a 1200W sub and 400W amp.

Re: Getting Power To The Boot?

Well I haven't had chance to try it yet, due to the fact that it has rained non stop in the north east for the past.....well, about 5 years , but my sub arrived, and did a quick wire up check (just in the engine bay), and everything sounds fine. Hoping for my amp to arrive within the week if all goes to plan

Re: Getting Power To The Boot?

Right, i've located the hole in the engine bay, and started to feed something through it, but then, I hit something about 10/15cm, and I dont know what the hell it is!!!!!!

Its driving me mad becuase I cant see what it is or anything,
.

And secondly, where exactly does the wire supposed to come out of in the passenger footwell? How do I make a hole for the wire, becuase its just coated in sticky looking black stuff and it looks quite thick.

Any help (preferably pictures or something!) would be GREATLY appriecated, because this is pi$$ing me off no end.

EDIT : Nevermind, just took a lot of trial and error......34th times a charm as they say.......

Just a shame that was a practice run with a bit of network cable lol.
