Help w/ installation of Sony CDX-GT50UI

Hey guys.

I've recently bought several products to upgrade the stock Blaupunkt stereo within my '06 Grande Punto Active Sport, although i've encountered an issue during the installation.

After much research on the 'net, it was understood that to install a Sony CDX-GT50UI within the car I also required several Autoleads parts... these include a PC2-86-4 wiring harness, a PC5-137 radio antenna adapter and a FP01-07 fascia. Following the removal of the original stereo, an attempt to connect the wiring harness was made although i've had trouble connecting the cables. With my understanding of the setup, the cable from the Sony Head Unit should connect to the wiring harness easily, which in turn connects to the cars cabling.

Is this setup correct, as it may be my own misunderstandings that stop me from connecting it correctly? The issue is with connecting the wiring harness to the cars original cabling.

Thanks for your time and co-operation.

Andrew.

Re: Help w/ installation of Sony CDX-GT50UI

Cheers for the reply Jonny... but how tough should it be to connect the car wires to the Autoleads ISO adapter harness, as it appears to be rather difficult for myself?

Please find provided below the images of the car wires and Autoleads ISO adapter harness.

I fully realise i'm running the risk of sounding like a total retard by asking how to connect the plugs together, but any help is appreciated.

Andrew.

thats completly the wrong harness, someone has provided you with a bmw style flat pin harness, yours is a simple ISO block. forget the autoleads harness and just plug the sony harness directly to the car

Re: Help w/ installation of Sony CDX-GT50UI

Well, isn't that typical... I read on the Autoleads support section that I needed that harness adapter. Damn.

And you mentioned that I should just connect the Sony harness straight to the car, although it was my understanding that there was an issue with the ignition feed, which resulted in the head unit not powering on.

Am I required to move some of the cables to match the correct connection on the car?

Re: Help w/ installation of Sony CDX-GT50UI

yes thats likely in the fiat. either the ignition feed isnt there or is in the wrong place. you need to see if you have one and put it in to the correct position. or if its not there connect the permanent live to both ignition and live to get stereo to power or get an ignition feed from somewhere else and connect it to stereo

o and its v likely that new GP's use the harness needed for that adapter. most car manafacturers and making their wiring like that now

Yes, you got the wrong adaptor. What you've got is a Quadlock which can be found on Peugeots, Citroëns, BMWs, etc. which use the CAN-bus network protocol.

Re: Help w/ installation of Sony CDX-GT50UI

Thanks for the replies dudes.

Following your advice and some more research, I just decided to hook up the ignition feed cable from the stereo to the continuous power supply within the car to give power to the stereo. I've heard that the battery won't die as long the fascia isn't in... is this correct? I've set the stereo to turn off after 30 seconds on non-use, so hopefully that'll help.

And I was totally misadvised on what adapters were required for the new head unit. Obviously the wiring harness was incorrect, but also the radio antenna adapter wasn't needed so that's £20 i'll never see again. It's okay though, 'cause i'm still basking in the glory of having a direct connection to my iPod. No more iPod FM transmitters for me.

Thanks again for your advice. Appreciate it.
