Re: Power Cap??

well since you already have the power cap fit it. i like mine and seems to do the job fine. not gona go into the arguement about them, theres loads of info on here about them. it can be done by either running it in line. split power wire, crimp two battery terminals to split ends and screw both onto live terminal and earth power cap to same point as amp. distribution block is another method but i usually use in line as the power cap is and addition so it will still do the exact same as it did before but the power cap is helping along when needed

Re: Power Cap??

a good way to go is to upgrade altenator [higher cranking] i have one for sale
this is a good move because it wont put a strain on anything, infact you will find when done proparly, multi earthing etc all electrics will work to thier best

Re: Power Cap??

no theres no guides available for wiring a power cap. i dont think it suffices to make a guide, the stuff available from searching this section is discussion on threads about power caps between a few techs. no installation guides. do this:

split live wire close to amp
strip back cover to expose inner wires
crimp battery terminals to exposed ends
screw both to live terminal of power cap
earth power cap using short earth wire
thats it

i wouldnt worry about the distribution block method, adds more components, cost and difficulty in doing

when you get it all done. will you post up here to say if it made a difference to your system or car out of curiousity. cheers

I can say now no it wont make any difference and if he reports that it does it will just be a placebo Effect.

How do you intend he split the wire to two amps without a Distribution block which is so Fcukin easy to install.

His sytsem isnt big enough to warent doing too much too work into the powering using sufficiently sized cable should be fine and at the very most a new alternator if you have a tiny engine and money to throw away.
What amps are you running and how im sure we can get it sounding a lot better with the efficiency of the current wiring by wiring the subs at 2 ohms.
Two 250w subs arent going to blow up your car mate so dont worry.

Re: Power Cap??

didnt see the two amps part. depends on how he has wired them. if hes currently using the distribution block method then add power cap to extra terminal if available. if not do the same as i said before the block so both amps benifet

now dont be saying that. let the guy tell us if they made a difference. some of us believe they work, they are used in more than audio systems like electric motors and if they solve issues like dimming lights theyre obviously having some effect

sufficent wiring is a must before you start worrying about things like caps or alternators

Go on the net and see all of the Race forums they all come up with the same conclusion as me and there is actually some technical justification of that.

Re: Power Cap??

which is?

as far as i see it, audio system gets installed, drains peaks of power at loud bass notes draining from other electrical components thus dimming lights. installation of power caps supply that peak from their ability to condense large volume of electrodes in pure form for when they are most needed fixing dimming lights. simple

Yes and in theory that does work but what is in question is the levels of capacitance that is needed to to do this and i think that you will need 1 farad to every 40w RMS.
I will be able to prove this either way as soon as i can get to a rolling road day do one reading music up full with cap and one without cap. If caps do work then there shouldnt be a lot of difference to the HP if they dont then the HP should drop quite a way.
