pioneer avic x1r problems

anyone technical on here that can help?

i have had my x1r 3 years now and it is slowly dying.

the buttons on the front are intermittent at best and the screen turns on but the backlight for it seems intermittent also. it doesnt work more often than it does.

any ideas guys? i would normally scrap it and get a new one but it cost me £1300 and i dont yet feel i got my moneys worth. and i know the local ice shop will fleece me.

would be really grateful if someone could help

Re: pioneer avic x1r problems

hw old is the unit?

i take it its over a year old at least. because of the intermitent problems and flip out screen i would check the ribbon and see if there is a break in it. when the screen is out the break opens stopping contact with the buttons and not supplying power for backlight etc. relativly cheap to get a ribbon off any good ICE dealer. hope this is the problem....

Re: pioneer avic x1r problems

3 years old.

ive been doing some googling and it sems to point to the ribbon. but i dont get how it affects the buttons on the front? its not part of the screen iykwim.

in america pioneer are replacing the ribbon under warranty as it has a fault but in the us it is known as the avic N1 and there is no mention of the uk spec version. exactly the same unit though

Re: pioneer avic x1r problems

it prob is the same unit, a lot of companies use different names in different countries to stop consumers bitching about price differences

is the front buttons removable on your unit? this is usually a feature of high spec models. if so it is the case where you have a ribbon style system joining the connections. it may be part of the same ribbon that controls the screen hence disturbing both

considering the cost of the unit i would replace the ribbon. its a cheap soloution if it is the problem. if it isnt its not that big of a loss
